Your typical ML ESP/BAS light problem

Hello, I have a 2001 Mercedes Benz ML320 and I have this consistent problem of my ESP/BAS light staying on. Once in a blue moon it will turn off and the system will work properly, like when I take a corner in a quick manner it will slow down the car and the ! light flashes during that process. Also when the system is working and the ESP/BAS light is off, I can turn of ESP by a switch in the cabin, as it should. Otherwise the ESP/BAS light is always on and the system does not operate at all. What should I do? Do I need a part for the esp system? Can I fix this myself? Do I need a Mercedes Benz tech to diagnose the problem first?

Ok, do I need to get that done at a Mercedes shop or can I go to any other shop? I heard that only Mercedes specific diagnostic scanners work.

Any pro level scanner will do. You don't need to go to the dealer.

When you say pro scanner you mean those red (or at least what I think I've seen to be as red) diagnostic scanners they plug into a port in the driver's foot well?

A professional grade scanner is large and held with both hands. Those in the link below are Snap-On, simply shown as a example, but it does not have to be that brand It also must be able to read European codes.

Thank you very much! I'll try to get that done.
