Hi guys, I have an 01 ML320 and there's this rattling that seems to come from the bottom of the car on the passenger side towards the middle of the car. It is very obvious at idle when parked, and when stopped at a red light. Once the rpms rise over idle, the rattling disappears. It's not a super serious rattling sound but it is very obnoxious. The SUV's got just under 100k. Thoughts?

Check the CAT's on bank 1. That is catalyst converters on the passenger side

Do you think it's actually from the cat itself or maybe a bracket or something?

Get under the car & tap the CATs. If the fault lies with them you will hear the rattling

I had the a bad rattle under mine. Thought something broke loose inside the exhaust. Turns out I got very lucky, the rubber isolators on the exhaust have a two piece metal clamshell on them. Only function near as I can tell, they are supposed to prolong the life of the rubber. Anyhow, back one behind the muffler rusted and came apart, but not off. I was able to break the two pieces off. Noise all gone! Hopefully you get lucky also!

The cat on my wife ml had cracked along the factory weld and was making a rattling noise just re weld and your fine. also check the cross bracket for the exaust bolts up to the transmission.
