MCS SECURITY CODE
i purchased an 02 ML320 knowing that the guy didn't have the code for the radio thinking it would be easy enough to get the code. it hasn't been. i bought the tools to pull out the radio and the SN on the unit doesn't match the SN number on the code card i found in the manual. the SN # is AL 4210 1 12 24883 ... if someone could help me out with the code for this unit that would be great! thanks! j w hudson

maj. dundee, i have 6 codes for the radio that's in my truck. ranging from a vin related code to the actual serial number on the radio. none of them work. when i enter a code and hit ''ok'' it just blanks back out.

UPDATE!
called the nice folks at baker motor cars in Charleston, south carolina, again and talked to a service tech. he said sometimes the unlock code on the radio code card is wrong and you have to put a 5 in the first position. my radio code card said 31143... he said put 51143 and it unlocked. now, of course, there's no audio... but at least it's unlocked.

With the key removed from the ignition, remove the radio (special keys needed).
At the rear of the radio you will see a connector with two orange tubes (fiber optics). Press the lock release in the top middle of the connector, remove the connector, wait two secs. and re-install. Partially slide the radio back in but do not lock it.
Turn the radio on and see if you have audio. If not repeat process.
Refer to this link for radio removal and radio keys.

i've removed the radio a few times to trouble shoot the fiber optics. the connector for the mcs only blinks red once and the port on the mcs doesn't blink at all. so then i checked the cd changer and both the connector and port blink red. i haven't checked the amp or tele-aid yet. but since the port on the mcs unit doesn't blink i think the fiber optic ring might be bad. thoughts?

UPDATE!
so i checked the tele-aid under the passenger seat and the connector and the port both blink once. i know the mcs unit is supposed to blink 4 times... but i don't know about the tele-aid and cd changer. i haven't managed to make my way to the amplifier yet.
