Delay starting on ml320. Help!!!
Hello everyone, I have a yr 2000 benz ML320. When i insert the key in the morning, It delays before starting. sometimes it crank for about 10 seconds or more before it finally starts and get the engine running. So what i do is to make it roll or crank for maybe 2 seconds and then i turn off the ignition then i insert the key again and start it then it will start up instantly. The second try is always fast to get the engine running. Then Once its 15 minutes after its turned off. It will delay before starting again. Please what can i do or replace to get the car to its normal working condition. I have 125k miles on it.

On the next cold start turn the key to pos. #2 and leave it there for 15-20 secs. and then try to start.
If it starts immediately or better than what it has been doing, then you need either a fuel filter or a fuel pump. If so start by replacing the filter first.

Thanks. But i tried it. It didn't start. Its still the same second try before starting. Could it be the spark plugs? coz i have never changed them before. Thanks

No it is not a spark plug issue. What is happening is the fuel in the lines is draining back down to the tank after you shut the eng. down.
The only way you are going to find out if it is a fuel issue is obtain or buy a Fuel Pressure Gauge.
After the truck has been sitting a while, DO NOT START THE ENG., KEY OUT OF IGNITION, attach the gauge to pressure port and read the psi. It should be no less than 36 psi.
Refer to this link for procedure.
