BAS/ESP brake light switch - question!
Just curious,
Ive got the BAS/ESP light, that is commonly fixed by replacing the brake switch. My question is, if this switch is bad, shouldn't my brake lights also not illuminate? I'd imagine it controls both...
Sorry for the stupid question... just don't want to waste money without knowing in fact that the switch is the culprit.

BLS has multiple functions & sends signals to multiple components. If any one of those functions malfunction one will get ESP/Bas .
Don't you think spending $25-00 on a switch after 14 years is a waste of money?

Well, my philosophy in general is to be analytical in nature. It's not really about the money. Anyways...
I have confirmed the brake lights illuminate, as well as I can engage gears other than park, etc. So signal is being sent by the same switch to other receptors.
My question really was clarification - people who swapped out the switch and it fixed their BAS/ESP issue, we're other things (brake lights etc) functioning fine or was it a complete failure of the switch (ie, no brake lights working)?
Trying to understand the situation. The low cost and easy access of the part make it a willing crapshoot, but adding information to a forum is always beneficial

The bake light switch has a few things it is switching. One is the Brake Lights, two is the cruise control cut off, and three is the BAS system, four is the gearshift interlock, so just because the brake lights work doesn't mean the switch is working all the systems. I had a 98 W210 with the same issue and even with everything seemingly working, the BAS/ESP light would intermittently come on. Replacing the brake light switch fixed that issue.
