I wish I knew how much I was getting to the gallon...but I have this fuel sender problem that GdawgC220 is talking about. When I fill up my tank (auto-stop kicks in at the pump...then I still top off) my gas guage never goes above 3\4 tank...NEVER! I can't remember the last time I saw my tank reading full!! So I never know how low on gas I really am.

Dealer says it would be big bucks to fix....so now I re-fill everytime I get near 1\4 tank!

Either way...the gas milage sucks, I sure.

That's good mileage for a 430...

drummerboy, that is very good mileage for a ML430...that's the kind of numbers I used to get on my 2000 ML320 before it had its CATS replaced...

Now I am averaging 11-13 mpg in city...and under 14 on the freeway...

I'm pretty sure, they have screwed up something inside while they replaced the CATs...I have never had my ML give me mileage under 15 mpg in the past...not even with the worse stop and go traffic driving..

Saturday is my 5th visit to the MB shop this year...I am getting fed up of this thing....I really feel this is simply an American car with the 3 pointed star on it.

$50,000 on this car..and 3.5 years down the road it is causing problems...I could have almost bought two Japanese cars out of the same money and each one would have given me half as many headaches...

I recently bought a 1995 Nissan Maxima with 150000 miles on it, to serve as a second car, since my ML goes in the shop so often....got the basic fluid flushes done and an oil change...and have been driving it for almost a month now...absolutely no problems...with it.

That's what makes me think, should have bought 2 Japanese cars instead of this $50,000 piece of problem...

So for a while now I've been getting awesome milage in the ML430. Its been around 20 mpg. I think it went up when Pete seafoamed it and I replaced the spark plugs. My problem now is the last few fill ups I've seen the fuel economy drop. Just today I filled up and it looks like I got around 17 mpg on that tankful. I know its not that much difference between 20 and 17 mpg but why the drop all of the sudden? Instead of Mobil I've been using Gulf gas. A new Gulf station just opened up near where I work so its easier for me to go there to fill up. Could it be the gas? Maybe I should stick with Mobil? I don't think I'm driving her any different so I can't imagine that is it. Checked tire pressure and its spot on.
Just curious why the drop.
Thanks for any input.
