Auxiliary waterpump
Just a quick question. Can I bypass the auxiliary water pump until I have money for a replacement? Mine is currently leaking a lot I have to fill up with coolant almost every other day. So if I could bypass it temporarily just to stop the leak that wwould be great...

I checked my aux water pump today.
It was dead. Ordered a new one.
Don't really need the additional coolant flow for heat in Dallas.
Should help shed the severe heat this summer.
I do have a question, with the aux water pump working correctly,
will I see a slightly cooler temperatures?

Great,
I have a cooling system-ectomy parts on order. Doing hoses, flush, coolant tank, thermostat, temp sender.
I usually like to do radiators every 10 years, but my cream puff has 100K miles and has lived in a garage for the last 14 years.
The wear from the sun and ambient temperatures is minimal

I made a recent discovery...if you are not afraid of used parts. The only difference between many of the Aux coolant pumps on MB's and VW/Audi's is the pump on top. If your pump is leaking this is not a fix! The 3 Phillips screws on the top will allow you to change the pump. My ML 500 uses the same Bosch motor and connector as a VW Jetta but the plumbing is different. There is a motor part number on the side of the pump that should match up with your motor. Be sure the connector for the electrical matches yours! Mine is square at all 4 corners (a rectangle). I know that many are 2 90's on one end and round on the other end (the shape of a long "D").
1. 2 clamps
2. One electrical plug
3. Pull the pump out of the rubber mount
4. Take 3 screws out and change the pump to the new motor
5. Install in reverse order
It takes about 10-15 minutes. The new/used pump hums perfectly! $35.00

Thank you and I would go this route except the pump actually leaks.... It was not on the mount it was leaning on the exhaust manifold and Im not sure how long but it burned a hole in it and now leaks. I thi k I need a whole new unit...

MB is very unique in most ways...to say the least. The source for Jetta pumps is much greater than MB but the hose size on the pump is larger for the Jetta. I was amazed when I found the motor was the same. Don't take any chances on running your ride low on coolant. Good luck!

It never Low I top it off often because of the leak. Its leaki g from the body not from the hoses thats why Im skeptical of changing just the motor as you said ...

All I can say is check your pumps . Looks like mine seized up from rust & corrosion , then melted to death because that’s what motors do right YouTube channel @TheLongRanger55
