2001 ML 320
BAS/ESP Issue

Hi guys, I own a 2001 ML 320, for the past few months or so I would randomly get the BAS/ESP warning light but just as quickly as it came on it would go away so I never really payed much attention to it. Recently however as I was driving going about 35 mph on a straight away the esp suddenly kicked in bringing me to a skidding stop and turning the BAS/ESP light on. This then happened two more times. Unfortunately I couldn't pull any pending or stored codes, I did find a C1120 code for the yaw rate acceleration sensor, but I haven't been able to replicate that result after checking the computer again. After researching this issue it seems that either the yaw rate or the lateral acceleration sensors are usually the culprit but I just wanted to double check with you guys to see if you have any suggestions or experience to share. Thanks

This issue is also very inconsistent, I could drive the car for miles with no issues and then suddenly this will come about without warning.

You must change the Yaw Rate Sensor, part #003 542 23 18. New costs around $525. Buy a used one.

http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from...18&_sacat=6000

This locking up of the brakes will occur again at any given time, so do not drive the truck until the sensor is replaced.

You must also clear the code from the Traction Cont. Module.

1. Remove the Arm Rest Cover.

2. Remove the Stowage Box.

3. Remove the Window Switch Pack by reaching under it and pushing it up and out & remove elec. connectors.

4. Then remove the Yaw Sensor and its bracket together by prying the locking tab out of its slot and turn it in the direction of the arrow.
