Random ticking noise in/near engine
I recently drove my Ml320 (208k miles regular oil changes with Mobil 1 0/40 and Mb filter) and got the rims briefly to 4500 while downshifting to change lanes. I'm not sure if this caused anything, but when I got home I popped the hood to listen to my power steering pump whine (different issue) and I heard a random clicking/ticking noise coming from the right rear portion of the engine compartment. I can't tell if it is the engine or not. It is totally random but it seems to go away when you increase rpms but maybe I just can no longer hear it. I let the car sit a few minute and upon restart the noise improved, in that the intervals between noises had increased. Went back an hour later and it's gone. It almost sounds like arching, or clicking. It is completely random, there is no cadence.

Sorry for not being very clear. The noise always comes from the driver's side, but it does seem to "move" as you move but appears to be coming from the forward ignition coil or maybe near the throttle. The noise is truly random, one click, followed by another in two seconds, followed by something like two or three in immediate succession, then another one a couple of seconds later etc.
