ML500
Common parts search question

I use Pick and Pull a lot because the dealer is sooooo expensive. I have found common parts but I don't know how to search for a particular part's use on a different model.

For example, I pulled a cabin fan, cable, and fan regulator from a 2002 MLxxx (was labeled as a ML500 but all the badges were missing) and installed it on my 2004 ML500. Worked fine. So I'm looking for an organized way to do this.

My dealer tells me it's impossible. Their records are based on VIN, so if you give him the VIN, he can tell you which part to buy. But he can't tell you if a bumper cover is the same for a 2003 ML350 as a 2004 ML500 without the VINs for both.

I find this hard to believe, because back in the day, if I wanted to revise a part, I had to run a "where used" list to find all the applications of that particular part, and had to verify that if I changed the part, the change was compatible in all the applications, not just the one for which I was making the change.

Anybody know how to do this? or is it locked away in Mercedes' computers?

To do what you want correctly---you need access to MB EPC and a VIN

PS: The dealer is BS you--it's all in the search tab, however what dealer wants to tie up their parts department for some AH who will never purchase a part and is looking for used where used parts information---give me a brake Biff!!
