Sudden noise at start and acceleration
Recently when starting my 2000 ML 430 (117k) it is extremely loud, as though the engine is being steadily revved. The RPMs drop as normal and it quites down while in park. The truck starts and runs fine.
However when accelerating it sounds like a 747 going down a runway for take-off. No grinding or clunking, just a loud almost straining whooosh. When the wife is bringing it home I can hear her accelerate from the stop sign half a block down the street. Loud accelerating from a stop and loud when accelerating while doing 30 mph, etc.
Has anyone else dealt with this or have an idea of what it could be?
Thanks in advance for your help.

MBWorld Fanatic!
Have you opened the hood to see where the noise is coming from?
It's difficult for us to know what sort of noise you are experiencing without hearing it, but it could very well be the fan clutch is faulty.
Also PLEASE UPDATE YOUR PROFILE in USER CP to include where you live.
