W163 ML 270 CDI rear dimming mirror upgrade retrofitting installation
Hi all
I found a used internal dimming mirror for ML and successfully tried to install in my W163 ML 270 CDI.
I searched for the connector under the overhead console but there wasn't (or I didn' find it ) )
first had to know how to remove the old mirror and check if the attachment was the same, luckily it was.
how to disconnect mirror instruction here:
Dimming mirror code is A1638101017/1
the problem was to find correct wiring.
dimming mirrors in general have these controls:
_ +12V hot run (when ignition is on) to supply dimming circuit
_ ground - chassis negative
_ off dimming control (i.e. when reverse gear is inserted)
A1638101017/1 has all the light sensors inside and no bus/data/canbus connection;
I discovered that connetor wires are:
_ red: +12V when ignition on
_ black: ground/chassis
_ orange: +12V for the two illumination lamps that are in the mirror, I connected it together with the red wire. (I will probably add a fuse to this line 180% of maximum measured current)
_ pink and blue: these wires should control the external dimming mirror (I haven't got it, so I didn't connect them)
_ green: (not 100% sure but it works) if connected to ground then dimming mirror goes off, it probably should be connected to a reverse gear switch but I didn't use it.
Luckily when opening overhead console,
(here you find how:
)
I found an unused green connector with two wires: exactly +12V when ignition on, and ground. So I used those !!!!
IT WORKS !!!!!
