The factory one comes with studs that require holes in the bumper cover. You can cut those off and just use clear silcone sealant.

Hi,

I know this is an old thread, but I just purchased a 2011 ML350, and had a question about the loading sill.

Mine still had some of the 'factory' plastic protective coating that the original owner never removed, now its kind of sun baked in.

I want to remove the loading sill and remove all that coating, as some is still tucked up and under the backside.

Does it just snap on and off?

Old? This is prehistoric! Mine came with it stock so I did not have to install it and never saw the bottom side. I would guess it does, so some gentle prying may tell you. You could also remove the rear skid plate piece and probably see the underside of the bumper cover.
