both headlights not worinig on my ml350

i have an 07 ml350. both headlights just stopped working. there is no error message on the dash panel. i looked at the engine compartment fuses and they all look fine. could this be a problem with the headlight relay? if so, where is the relay located? there is no map or schematic for the relays in the manual or on the fuse location manual (tucked away in the trunk, under the spare tire). all of the other lights work fine, including the running lights, fog lights and the parking lights. the high beams also work.

maybe the dash switch itself....I think if it were a relay, you would get an error. But, if the switch went bad, the computer might not get the message that the lights are supposed to be on....

turns out both headlights were burned out! my wife was driving the vehicle with only one light and didn't realize it. after the second one stopped working, she suddenly noticed there was a problem.
go figure.

Should have seen an error message on the dash telling you which bulb was out. Also these ML's have bulb substitution, so as a priority bulb goes out, the system raises the wattage on a nearby bulb (probably high beam in this case) to provide the needed illumination.

photonut,

I currently have the driver side headlight bulb not working on my 2008 ML350 (I did get the error message, luckily).

I have 2 questions for you:

1. Did you take it in to Mercedes to have the light bulbs replaced, or did you do them yourself?
2. If you did them yourself, could you advise on how the bulbs were removed from the sockets?

I tried removing the driver side headlight bulb from the housing and it would not budge. I tried turning it both counter-clockwise (as per the manual) and clock-wise to remove it and it would not turn.

Any assistance you can give would be appreciated. Thank you,

M

Benzo,

Thanks for the info. as mentioned in my other post, i was able to change out the bulb by turning the bulb and harness 'hard' counterclockwise. it works!

Thanks,

M

Loosen the bumper cover and grill, remove the front fasteners by the fender splash shield, remove the 3 fasteners that hold the headlamp assembly, unplug harness. When you re install, take your time and align the fenders and headlamp gaps, and the side housing adjustment.

I think it is reason why I have changed relay (ballast) in dealership - I wasn't sure how to do headlight alignment etc

The ballast (or relay for xenon) is ~ 500 $ - also, I think I got message on board about light problem ...
