air ducts under seat - how do you access them

someone, i won't name who, got some batteries and some chapstick under the seat of our ML. then, did not remove it quickly so they rolled into the air ducts under the seat. now they are rolling around down below and i'm afraid the chapstick is going to melt.

any advice on how to access the compartments down there?

thanks in advance.

I have a similar dilemma, but the car was delivered to with something already there.

Didn't notice it at first because I was enjoying the free XM/Sirrius too much. Now, it's really inconvenient to go to a dealer just for this - plus I'm a thousand miles from the delivering dealer.

i spoke to my service rep and he said what they would do is just stick a heavy duty shop vac in there and drive around. i'll give it a shot. but no way to remove that easily.

OK, dealer removed the seat in order to get to the ducts. Found a chap stick. Interesting thing is that it was not a brand my wife and I have ever bought. And, no other passenger had been in the car when we first heard the darn thing rolling around. I wouldn't think the factory would allow anything like that on workers on the assembly line. Got to wonder if maybe it was the dealer prep staff??

Those ducts are one of the dumbest designs I have ever seen. Any small movable object on the rear floor is destined to end up in those ficken' ducts. I've got to fabricate something to prevent this from happening again.

Oh, dealer charged me an hour labor ($125) for the work. That's ended up being one expensive chap stick.

Try reversing...

Had the same issue in my C300 coupe. My iPhone fell out of my pocket and under the seat and ended up pretty much under my feet in the air duct. i reversed around 10mph and hit the brakes and it came flying back out. Might not work for all items but it certainly worked for my phone
