'06 ML350 w/ Airmatic - Leaking rear shock

So the rear passenger shock on my ML350 is leaking. In fact, I suspect it has been so for almost a year (been hearing loud BANGs from that corner when riding off-road). The shock is covered in "mushroom"-looking junk, whereas the other shock is clean.

Would you guys suggest replacing both rear shocks at the same time? Or all four corners? Anything else worth replacing down there? Perhaps a full suspension refresh? I'm on air suspension. Car has 120k km / 74k miles on it, and I believe it's on all original components.

I doubt if it has an airmatic strut. I asked the SA months back about air strut models and he said MLs don't come with airmatic. If yours do I wonder why you purchased an air strut benz. Thats extra $1500 on each strut ever couple of months. If you have the money fix it only at the dealers cuz the part comes in from germany and you get warranty also but I still doubt if ML comes with Airmatic struts

My 2008 ML has Airmatic suspension and the rear air springs are separate from the shock. If you are mechanically inclined, the rear airspring is literally a 15 minute replacement. A new airspring from Arnott is half the price of the dealer and is an OEM part. The front struts have the airspring integrated and are crazy expensive.

Airmatic

Euler, you are correct about the airmatic. The rear ones are quite easy to replace. The front airsprings takes a little bit more effort, but it´s possible to swap the airspring and keep the old shock. You can by the airspring on Ebay for around 250$ each. With normal skills it will take you around 3hrs per side to change them.
