2011 ML350 (W164) COMAND Update
Hello Everyone!
Beforehand, I want to say that I am happy to join your MB community! I picked up a used 2011 ML350 a couple of months ago and I couldn't be happier (well, except for the granny shifter, that kinda upsets me....)
My first service was due and I took the car to the dealer yesterday. They did full service to the car, but when I asked for a COMAND update the salesman looked at me incredulously. He explained to me that if I was having trouble then maybe they would look at it, but if not there was nothing he could do. The car hadn't gotten any service since August of 2012 because it had been in the dealer's lot since then (I bought it in August 2013) and I am fairly convinced that the COMAND is not up to date and I believe that I am missing some features. As a reference point, I have taken a family friend who drives a new E class and when they turn off the screen the clock stays on (faint black screen with clock on top) and they can also stream audio via bluetooth too, features that my COMAND doesn't have.
I accessed the engineering menu on the COMAND unit and I took some pictures, maybe you can point me to whether or not the car is running the latest update (since the dealer wasn't really helpful)
Thank you beforehand!
PS: Sorry I'm uploading all 5 of the pictures I took, but there are a lot of numbers and reference codes and I couldn't figure out which ones would be the most useful to you.

Was it CPO (certified pre owned)? If so, it should have been done as part of the CPO process. Also, I cannot believe you have purchased a car from them and they wont even take a look to see whether or not the version is up to date.

Unfortunately no, it was not a CPO. I bought the car from a Chevy dealer where most of the used MB's in my area end up (the MB dealer nearby is owned by a guy who does not sell used MB's in his dealer, and he also owns the Chevy dealer so they just end up there and aren't sold as CPO. However, the car is still in warranty, and I got the service done at the MB-only dealer.

Don J - did you ever get this sorted out?
I just bought a 2011 ML350 from a private party. It was serviced by a private mechanic for the past 3 years so I doubt it has current software. Or maybe it does since it was the last year for the W164. Either way I would like to know it has the latest and greatest! And I'm having some bluetooth issues so I'd like to make sure...
Did you ever figure out what version is the latest?
Can you please instruct me what buttons to hold to get into the engineering menu? What version codes am I looking for???

I have a 2010 model and I also am very interested in finding a source for updated COMAND software. I would like to enable the Bluetooth audio streaming and apparently it can be made available via updated COMAND software.

I landed here looking for an update to my Command system. I'm surprised this is turning into a challenge. How hard it is it to get a software update?
Though based on the interface design, there's not doubt that these guys aren't on the same wavelength as SV.

How can we check what version software we have?
I have a 2010 ML350 4matic and would like to update my Comand as well if that's possible.
And erase that insanely big phone book from the previous owner at the same time, if possible.

Any Updates?
Is this the most recent version for ML 350 (2011)?
I’d also like to know the version! I figured out how to enter engineering mode (hold the ‘end call’, 6 &* buttons for a few seconds) there is tons of info. I’m guessing ‘version(HW/SW) is the version... is that right?
It reads 08.31 a 08.47(00)
ultimately my back-up camera works sparatticaly (black screen with flickering colored lines)... and I am looking for a factory reset to ensure (hope) it’s not the actual camera.

The dealers are not required to update Comand units, though if you are having some other service done you can ask for them to check if there is an update available. Updates at the dealer only apply to the firmware..Dealer employees who don't know the Comand unit can have its firmware update are braindead. Ask for the Service Manager if they give you any grief. Expect to pay for the upgrade (labor only). Its not covered under warranty unless there is a problem with the unit that the update fixes.
The nav database is commercial and you have to buy the update if you want to have the latest one.
Also (and this should be a no-brainer), software updates do not enable hardware features. For example, some cars have bluetooth on their Comand units, some don't. That's a hardware issue, not software.
