Advise on steering column disassembly please! Broken gear selector arm on steering

My GF snapped the stalk off the gear selection arm on the steering column known to mercedes as the Direct Selector lever on her '06 ML350. Pic is the part in question. It comes attached to the clock spring and angle sensor I think come out as an assembly.
Been reading up on this.
Found a slew of docs on the DVD.

One post mentioned that when you disconnect the airbag the aux battery
will throw a code for the airbag even if you disconnect the main battery.
Is there any reason you can't disconnect the aux battery? Along with the regular battery of course. Yes, I know it's hard to access as I recently replaced it, but kept power applied to the main battery leads with jumper cables while I did it. Not sure what happens when you disconnect both. Anyone know?

Is there any advise anyone can offer on not getting the clock spring
messed up while performing this repair?
All the MB docs say, is , if you mess the clock spring to replace it.
Thanks Mercedes.
Local dealer wants 450 just in labor for this repair,
and i already have the part!

Attaching a few docs to hopefully help elicit useful comments.
I'm concerned about hosing the angle sensor and clock spring and would like useful advise on how to NOT do that!

Just be careful. I have heard she is in the habit of breaking stalks off!

Anyone successfully pull a clock spring from the steering shaft without causing any damage and reuse and reinstall ok?
Bueller? Bueller?
Must be someone here who's done it. WIS docs kinda suck.

I repaired it, found all the docs on the dvd.
It wasn't so hard.
Assuming you actually see this and pm me, send me your email address and I'll send you a zip file
of everything. Don't post your email in the thread.

Actually easier then I imagined, and no issues with clock spring.

Dealer wanted $450 for the labor. It took me about an hour, after spending many more
hours researching it.

Holy crap! This just happened to my 2006 ML 350. Do you still have the repair zip file? I'd love to have it!
