RRRRRRRR noise from 40-60mph - Not Transfer Case...

I have this front RRRRRRRRR noise coming from the front of the Suv. Suv has 150k. The noise gets louder from 40-60 mph and then disappear and then reappears from 80-90mph.

Here a the specific symptoms:

When I drive on the highway I can hear it clearly. While driving, if I steer to the right, the noise disppear. When I steer to the left, the noise stay. When driving straight, the noise stay.

With the car jacked up, no loose when grabbing the front wheels at 12 and 6pm and trying to move it (pushing and pulling).

I thought it was the transfer case, and had it replaced and still the same noise (knocking my head off !!!)

Drained the oil from the front differentials and did not notice any metal except one small metallic particle (only 1 piece) about 1/32'' irregular shape.

Now, anyone can point out what can be wrong ?

Thanks

My W163 made a noise like that while driving. It was a bad wheel bearing. The noise would go away when I would turn in one direction but not the other direction due to only one side being bad. I can't remember if it's the opposite side of the turn that's bad or the same side of the turn. Either way it was a wheel bearing.

Sounds like a wheel bearing. Mine did the same thing.

Yes, what year? Does it seem to come from the drivers side, almost slightly to the right of the steering wheel? I recently had my front differential bearings replaced for exactly that.
I got the bearings off ebay, since Mercedes doesn't sell them.
We found a shop that specialized in differentials to pull the diff, repair it, and put it back in for $500 here in Cali. The bearings sets go for around $300 or about 400 with the seals. So total outlay of under a grand, whereas Mercedes would sell you a whole diff for 4 grand. Sadly, a very common failure.
