ML320 (w164) radio antenna reception issues after headunit upgrade

Hi everyone, I have just upgraded my head unit in a 2007 ML320 (w164)!! Everything is working well besides my radio reception, its terrible.

The aftermarket head unit is a s100 & has a radio antenna adapter which is the problem!! Ive tried everyway to connect this antenna adapter & it just doesn't seem to work!! Ive tried it with the 12V connect & disconnected, ive tried just the fm cable connect as well as the fm & am!!

Ive seen a lot of people have this issue but know one has resolved it with the ML320 (w164)

Please help!!!!!

power the antenna up, not with that POS. I forget which wire it is, but it is easily found at the antenna modules. you need to turn on the antennas otherwise you are going to have crap reception

There are 2 antenna modules!! One in the tail gate passenger side & the other in the rear quarter panel on the passenger side!! How would I power them up & why aren't they powering up like when the factory head unit is installed?? Thanks for your input by the way, this does make sense!!

there should be a single 12v turn on, and the obvious... its an aftermarket radio, not a factory radio

Its a plug & play unit though!! I haven't wired anywhere for the unit to work so far so I didn't think id need to power up the antennas!! Would I be able to power them from behind the head unit?? Would you know what colours they are?? Ive noticed the 2 orange wires aren't plugging in to anywhere??

first, its a junk Chinese unit that says it is plug and play. i don't know the turn on color off hand and I don't have access to star wiring anymore. easiest way to find the wire at the antennas and then check continuity with the wires in the radio harness.

Update on Replacement Audio System?

I need bluetooth for my '04 SL500, the R230.475. I would not mind upgrading to full Android mirroring so I don't need to mount my phone for navigation. I looked at the Seicane Android 9.0 system on Amazon but don't like the reviews for the older units, especially regarding the radio reception. I also wonder about the optical communication compatibility. Any experience out there?
