Question A shop that's not a Stealership...

Just to clarify, I'm asking for a place in the Birmingham, AL area.

I'm new in town here and am trying to get a feel for the area, particularly in terms of good, reliable, won't rip you off every chance they get, car shops for my ML500.

I'm looking for any info you have on experience with shops, places to avoid, places that are good for your average maintenance and repair, that won't charge an arm and a leg in labor costs like stealerships tend to do.

I'm hoping that, because the SUV production plant for Mercedes is close by, there should be a couple good shops in the area.

*Anyone who can answer this is awesome in my book*
Is there any place that can do what I asked above AND provide tuning and customization work in terms of new suspension, wheels, tires, exhaust, and small engine upgrades (Highest grade/racing fluids) to optimize performance?
