Were you glad you took an extended warranty?
Hey all,
basically as the topic says, when you bought your ML, did you take the extended warranty, and if so, were you glad you did so? Did it pay off or did you still end up paying for repairs that were NOT covered.
I had a 2009 ML 320Bluetec, i sold it to my friend in 2012 because I purchased a W166.
His W164 had no issues untill recently his door locks failed. Cost to replace door locks was $1,200. I guess it would have been covered under the warranty, but the warranty cost approx $3,000 back in 2009 and I did not buy it. Basically if i would have kept it, I would have saved some $$.
how are your W164's holding up, I am debating if I should get the extended warranty on my W166, I plan to keep this one at least 7 years, I do not do a lot of mileage (approx 6K per year) the warranty cost about $3500US here in canada for a 7 year 100k mile term.
thanks

Thanks extended warranty !
I had two warranty repairs on my ML .
The first one was still under the original warranty - problem with the driver side door lock .
Was replaced at no cost to me .
The second time was under the extended warranty - when I joint the front differential failure club , it was replaced with a new one at no cost to me .
At least for me the warranties were a good thing to have .

I took the extended CPO warranty and am glad I did. What I can remember for warranty repairs
sunroof switch ($900)
rear power outlet
Rear Ball Joints
Transfer Case
Rear Hatch Locking mechanism
Drivers door Master switch
Power Steering Rack, technically I was out of warranty by 1500 miles but MBUSA and dealer picked up 75% of the cost.

If you're going to own a Benz out of warranty it's a no Brainer to me unless you cannot afford the warranty (strange as you can afford he Benz, otherwise) or you're not a warranty person and like to take your chances

My 09 has 90K. I did not buy an extended warranty. Maybe I am vey lucky but I have not had to spend any money on repairs beyond routine maintenance, oil, filter, brakes, tires, etc. I have considered extended warranty's but after reading the fine print, what is and is not covered, I decided against it. I also do not take my ML to the dealer. I have an independent MB shop 5 minutes from where I live who's rates are reasonable and has shared with me the dealer markup on parts. $900.00 for a sunroof switch. MB can be costly to repair but that is outrageous!

Evidently the sunroof switch is not replaceable, and you have to replace the entire console including SOS button, lights etc. I too thought it was outrageous

Newbie
I purchased mine with a warranty on it and it paid itself off within the first week. I purchased an 08 CDI with 90K.
I had some TPMS issues going on and the dealer replaced them. Happy I had the warranty because they wanted around $550 including labor for just 1 sensor. Unfortunately I do not think the sensors were the issue as this was in August of 2014 and I still have the light.
Now that my warranty is expired, I do not even want to take it in, so I have gotten used to the light on the dash. (tried taking it to discount tire, what a nightmare)
I would purchase a warranty. Better to be safe than sorry.

Glad I have an independent MB shop 2 miles from my home. My 2012 C300 sunroof switch was not working properly. It was covered under warranty but I know for a fact that the only item replaced was the switch. Makes you wonder. . . .

My $2900 extended warranty paid for a $7900 transmission replacement and a $3100 front diff replacement.
It worked for me. Only time with 3 vehicles that I made out on with an extended warranty. The other 2 vehicles (other brands) went the entire time I owned them without a claim.

Great forum, new guy here. I'm within a week of purchasing a 2011 ML350 with 43k. No idea on history other than it was a fleet vehicle. I'm treating a pretty good price…but definitely agree that I need to purchase extended warranty. Any thoughts? Is there a certain mileage or year mark that these things start experiencing issues? Thanks!

I am brand new here and also a new owner of a 2008 ML320; got it on Saturday. I did buy a 3 year extended warranty as the vehicle has 121 kms (75,625 miles) on it and I've never owned a MB before. Better safe than sorry, and it only cost me $500 to add the 3rd year (dealer included 2 years). I had huge problems with my BMW 335i (fuel pumps x2) so I'm a bit scarred by that.
