Factory Radio replacement

Trying to upgrade factory head unit ML GL
I am growing more and more frustrated with our factory entertainment system., but have not seen any viable alternative until this morning.
Has any one had an experience with the Alpine X800-d ML? I see that Alpine lists this as drop in replacement for the factory head unit but not in the US.
I contacted Alpine US, but they would not provide any information for overseas models.
I have seen some no-brand Chinese made units online but I don't feel comfortable with these units.
Any feedback will be greatly appreciated

At this time (reading this forum) the Alpine unit you mention is only for EU. I too am looking and am reluctant to purchase anything Chinese for my ML.

Hi,

I am in exactly the same boat I have an Audio 20 unit and want to replace with a Parrot Asteroid Smart unit.......a few things that I want to share:

1. Determine if you have an amplifier extra things needed.
2. If you have an Audio 20 this unit includes MOST optical fiber ring master (I am trying to find out what impact there is by operating without a ring master, obviously need to bypass )

What you will need is a fascia kit, cradle, antenna adaptor, SWC interface and CAN B interface for steering wheel integration.

These items are available worldwide, have a look at connect2.co.uk main supplier.

Cheers

I have a HK system currently and would like to retain the amp, fibre optic and steering setup with a unit that is a direct fit. To be honest it's the best system I've had by far. In any car I've owned. Just annoyed with the lack of bluetooth music play. And the fact that it's not touch screen.

Parrot Asteroid Smart has all you want.

You can add a bluetooth unit to connect to the AUX and stream music to the head unit.

Loads of info on the forums about this.
