ML500 Exhaust cutout valve mod
Hi guys, just wanted to share this exhaust mod for anyone else who wants a nice exhaust note and maintain the factory level for highway driving.
I bought 2 x 2.5" remote exhaust cut out valves on ebay, and i must say this exhaust mod is the best! When you want to hear the lovely rumble of the v8 you simply push the button and it opens up the valves bypassing the rear muffler, and when you dont want to wake up your neighbors or travelling on the freeway, you just leave it closed.
At first i had them fitted with mid resonators, but the exhaust note wasnt loud enough for me so i deleted them. Having them open while driving on the freeway isnt too bad, theres no drone.

I assume you would get the same effect if you cut out all the mufflers, thats essentially what i've done. The drone is honestly not too bad, you can still have a nice conversation at cruising speed on freeways

Doesn't look like the installation is quite finished yet in that picture.
I too am interested in how you have wired these up. Do you have it as manual triggered or off the throttle pedal?

Hi, yes it is finished, just the other 45" bend wasnt welded on in that picture, there are no clearance issues, plenty of room.
The wiring was simple, i ran the wires into the boot and connected it behind the 12v cigarette lighter.
Right now its just remote controlled, one touch and it fully opens, same with closing. This one here is a lot quicker in comparison to the QTP ones (QTP valves you need to manually hold for 9 seconds till its fully open)
Im trying to intergrate it into the suspension system, anyone know where i could get a 12V+ source (or GND) when i select "sport" mode?
OR somehow use the signal which turns on the light (when sport is selected) to power a relay?
I dont see why you couldnt get a micro switch and mount it underneath the pedal somehow.
here is a link to the item i bought:

For my install i got the welder to cut the 45" and weld it on (it can be bolted on), it didnt need to be so long, and i just wanted a nicer install.
