Hey Guys!

Needed some reliable opinion. I have a 2011 Mercedes Benz ML350 4WD that came with Continental 4X4 Contacts 255/55/R19. I got the car at 43K miles and currently have it at 66K. I am not sure if the tires have previously been changed. From the online reviews I am in between the Continentals and Pirelli Scorpion Verde All season plus. I am also open to other suggestion. I will be moving up North (Indiana) in a few months and would like to have the best possible tires that last long and can break well.

I have had continentals on other cars before and they usually run out quick and are okay for braking in my opinion.

What would you guys advice?

I heard good things about the Michelin Primacy MXV4 but they are quiet expensive.

I appreciate the feedback, I ended up getting the Pirelli based on the good word by the dealer, tirerack and some other friends. Hoping for a quite and good ride that will last long. If not, my next tires will undoubtedly be Michelins.

I had good luck with the Pirelli Scorpion Verde, smooth ride seemed to wear well. Not sure about winter grip, as I run dedicated snows in winter. The vehicle came with Toyo Versado CUV tires. They rode nice and handled well. I got about 45K out of them before they started getting a bit loud, but were not worn out yet.

My problem was I got the car at 43K miles and am currently at 67. The tires didn't last the warranty continental gives with it. They don't have the best grip in slightest of waters. Hopefully the Pirelli will be better. They're all season so I am planning on using them in snow when I move up North later this year. I have heard the Pirelli get noisy after 10-15K miles. Did you have a similar experience? I hope they last and well.

I did not quite hit the 10K mark and I got rid of the ML in April. I really think its going to depend on what type of driving. Mine was mostly highway

That's scary. I hope it lasts long, was told rotating tires helps.

I bought Bridgestone Ecopia 422 from Costco. My priorities were - snow traction and durability. I was pleasantly surprised by how quiet it was even after 15K miles. The size i got was 235/55/19. My original tires/wheels were 235/65/17 (Michelin Latitudes). Both of these tires are highly recommended. The Michelins are the most expensive > $1K. I got the Bridgestones for < $800 installed/balanced. Great in winter. I snowboard a lot in 7 springs PA and Snowshoe WV. This is why i wanted a "narrow" 235 vs 255.

I would prefer picking between Michelin, Continentals and Pirellis. I am planning on getting at least 50-60K miles on these tires which realistically might be too much. I know a guy so he helps me get good deals. I got my 4 Pirellis for 800. As I mentioned I am in FL currently but will be moving to Indiana so I wanted to have something that is good in all seasons/weathers. My biggest concern now is Noise. I drive for pleasure and if the tires start making noise I'll have to get them changed. Hopefully that won't happen. Are narrow tires better in snow?

Yes narrower tires are better in snow (everything else equal). Just watch any WRC rally snow stage. Because more weight is focused on a smaller contact patch it can penetrate loose snow much better. This is only true in fresh soft snow. But in compacted snow that cant be plowed - thats a different story. You will need studded tires or chains for that.

I'm going to Indiana, not sure if I'll need such extreme measures as chains etc. Hopefully it'll run as is. The Scorpion Verde All Season have the best rating off tirerack in all categories. Thanks for that info! I am not sure if I'll be driving in fresh snow or compacted snow but I'm guessing both?

Recommend Conti Cross Contac LX20 ECO PLUS. Have on my ML250. Great ride & excellent traction. Go to Tirerack.com for full info. Took off Michelin Latitudes after delivery & replaced with the above Conti's. Long mileage guarantee & lower price.

Ditto. I too have these. Burst a tire in March and the other 3 while good were not good enough to mate with a 4th brand new tire. Got all 4 mounted at TireRack's world HW in Indiana.
