ML320 Diesel engine air filter

Anyone ever changed them? Looks like 4 screws to remove on the airbox faces but very little access. Need clues from someone who has done it.

You remove the airboxes from the car, change the filters, and then reinstall. I've done it on the E-class with this engine, expect it's the same on the ML. Remove two bolts and loosen the screw clamp to the plastic manifold, then pull up to remove the airbox. Disassemble and change filters on the bench, then reinstall. Maybe 30 minutes work the first time you do it. Good luck.

Don't think so...doesn't the E class have cylinder type filters? Seen those removed on the bench. There's no way my manifold is coming out with 2 screws, ML's have the flat filters and there's no service manual on the MB website.

Think so. The E-class diesel uses two flat filters. It's the same part number as the ML, draw your own conclusion whether the same procedure applies. How about a video showing it being done:

Yes, I've done it on my ML, took about 1/2 hour, as mentioned above.

Think there's 4 screws each side which are captive (maybe only 2 are captive-can't remember), and you take the filter housings off, which is a bit of a fiddle, and then remove the filter element in comfort.

Managed to get some German-made compatible filters on ebay for less than a fiver A PAIR! (including delivery!).
Knowing the way ebay pricing works, I'd imagine they would be even cheaper your side of the pond..
