2009 ML550 Installing AMG Fender Flares & OZ Racing Black 20" Cortina Rims, Feedback?

Hey guys, my name is Frank and I own a White 2009 ML550 (W164) with roughly 80k miles on it. I've had the car for about a year and a half now and I'm looking to add some improvements to it. I love how my car looks currently but I really want to make it look a little meaner like the ML63 of the same year. I want to get the fender flares from the ML63 of the same year and a set of Black O.Z. Racing 20" Cortina Rims with an offset of 54mm and put on some 30mm spacers that I already own so that it would look right. I also want to tint my windows, and maybe paint the brake calipers red because it just looks amazing. I am also thinking about getting painting part of the grill black, the bar below that black, the chrome part of the foglights black, the mercedes logo black and both metal pieces of both bumpers black. I also want to get black exhaust tips, black bars on top of the car, and black side view mirrors. Also want to get Hella After, arket Headlights, Black trim on the doors, and trunk. I am in no way trying to be a poser and say that I have an ML63; I hate people like that, but I figured since the only real difference between the body of mine and the ML63 is the flares, grill, and rims. I am not planning on putting the quad exhaust or de-badging the car because as I said I hate when people do that to their cars and make it look like something it is not. The only thing that I plan on doing to the exhaust is maybe switching out the mufflers to some Flowmasters. Anyway, please let me know what you guys think, if you guys have any clue on pricing for the rims or the flares directly from the dealer, please let me know. Also, if you guys have any other suggestions for mufflers and/or resonators for my car please send me links or comment. Thanks

Hey Frank, I have most on your list already and waiting on the flares as we speak. Look up my posts and you can see the pics. I pretty much sourced everything on ebay including OE amg wheels. Now they have replica Poly/abs plastic flares, no need to pay oem ones. I'll keep you posted when I get the flares on.

Frank, make sure you the wheels with some aggressive offset for the flairs. I think the wheels in your pic has a 5mm offset. When I test fitted the flares on my 20" amg w/46mm offset, I still had a good inch till the outer edge. I'll be looking for wheels in the 27-40mm offset range for wide stance after the flares.

The ones in the picture are 60mm offset while my stock are 56mm offset so I hope 4mm isn't a problem

The W164 IMHO is one suv that doesn't need fender flares. The fenders are already beefed up.

Get a low offset rim to make it flush with the fender line and it will look much better.

Your car looks great. Can I ask you what the offset those rims are? I found a pair of Black Rims, non-AMG rims that have a 54mm offet and if yours are around the same offset then I won't bother with the flares at all. Thanks

The rims are 20"x9.5" with 46mm Offset GLS Replicas. Funny thing is I had the Replicas in my hands before MB showcased them on the new GLS. The rim design is not new. It the GL AMG rim. But the colour scheme changed for the GLS. Polished face & dark grey painted background.

I have 15mm Spacers on the back.

Tires are 275/45R20. There is an ever a slow slight bulge. Not even 1-2mm. So it gives a nice rounded appearance off the rim lip.

The front fenders sit flush with the tire & rim.

The back fenders bulge more and have more gap and that's why I used the 15mm spacers. Ideally you would want a 12mm spacer. But I didn't want to mess with the hubcentric lip so I used hubcentric 15mm spacers cause it's impossible to find any hubcentric spacers less than 15mm. They stick out 2-3mm out of the rear fender line. But in the end I LOVE that look. Makes it look beefcake and gives off a wide staggered look.

Here are more pics for your reference.

Just so you get a feel.

on my winter rims GL 20x8.5 with 56mm Offset to get them flush with the fenders I run 15mm front spacers & 20mm rear spacers.

Exactly what I want the car to look like

This is exactly what I would like the car to look like besides the rims and side view mirros that this Russian guy has on, I want the rims I posted and just to paint the side view mirrors I currently have black. Also no AMG Badges or quad exhaust as my car is a 550.

What I want the car to look like.

What I want the car to look like.

These are the rims I plan on getting 20x9.5 with an offset of 54mm.

How wide are the flares? You'll need a 15mm spacer in the front and a 20mm spacer in the back to get those rims flush with the fender lines WTHOUT flares.

Add the width of the flares to those numbers to get them flush with outer edge after flare installation.

Something tells me your in need of some really big spacers.

I've got some 30 or 33mm spacers at home I forget which exact size but they are at least 30mm. No clue on the size of the flares but I do know that the original ML63 with AMG rims with an offset of 56 fits perfectly with the flares on, so I am basing it off of that.

No they don't. They look awful. But that's just a mater of everyone's taste. Even the ML63 in stock trim could you 15/20 spacers.

Sorry I worded it wrong haha, yes you are right I think even on the 63's you have to put some spacers on in order to make it look right with the flares. We'll see what happens when I get the rims and then I'll decide if I should get flares or not.
