How Can I Lock My 2006 ML350 with the engine running?

Hi all,

I will be taking my dog on a long trip with me shortly to go to our summer camp. I want to be able to lock him in the car with the air on for short rest breaks.

I've tried everything, but the car will not let me lock it while running.

Please help!!!!! 😊

Thank you,

-Rebecca

Yes, take the metal blade out of your key and use it to lock the door.

If you haven't done this, remove your key ring (if you have one). Then near where you removed it from, you'll see a little slide switch on the top of the key. Slide it all the way to the end and while holding it, pull out the metal key blade.

Leave the ignition key in the ignition, and use the metal blade to lock the car. It's small so don't lose it! Even though you have the a/c on, just to be safe leave the back window open 4" (or wide enough to get an arm in) in case you somehow lock the dog in the car.

I'm assuming you don't have keyless go. With keyless go, just leave the car running and get out (take key with you). Shut door and hit button on door to lock car. It will lock with it running.
