2006 ML350 Stuck In Park
Symptoms;
- "Drive to workshop without changing gears" displayed in red.
- Whine coming from a component on side of transmission ***see photo/video*** when turning off vehicle and locking doors.
- Will not shift from park.
I believe the part that's making the whining noise is the Transmission Shift Control Module. Can anyone confirm that this is the part from the photo? Is it possible that the whine is being caused by a bad relay or is it for sure the unit itself that's gone bad?
If I have to replace this module I've read that it has to be programmed for my vehicle by the STAR computer. Is it possible to re-program a used one or am I stuck buying a new one?

Bueller? Bueller? Honestly, you gotta read the codes via SDS.
Eeek! That's a Horrendous noise....time for a mechanic to at least do a diagnoses.
When I read the title of the thread, i thought maybe it had something to do
with the shifter on the column, which I've replaced, sadly, no.

I've purchased the part to fix the car but it needs to be programmed to the vehicle. It's a used part. Is this something an Indy can do or is this a dealer only procedure?

The part arrived today. Two questions;
1. What does the hose attach to at the other end or does it just vent to atmosphere?
2. Is there a T30 bit that is shallow enough to reach the top bolts?

So, I got the ISM installed and had it programmed by dealer. Now the ISM will not communicate with the trans and they are wanting to replace the valve body. WTF?!?
The did confirm that the old ISM was in fact defective so how likely is it that both the ISM AND Valve Body fail at the same time???
I did notice that the tow truck driver used skates to get it onto the flatbed instead of using the wheel spacer like they're supposed to. How likely is it that that is the cause of the valve body failure? Or, is there something the stealer is "missing"?
Damnit! I was literally days away from trading this car in and now I'm looking at close to $3k in repairs! Damn this stings!

PLEASE HELP!!!!!
UPDATE:
So, MBUSA determined that the use of skates to load/unload the vehicle did not damage the valve body and that I'm pretty well SOL.
My issue is this, the valve body, from my understanding, will prevent the vehicle from starting and the vehicle started before it left my possession. The tow truck driver even got into the car and started it to be sure it didn't shift in hopes that he didn't have to drag it. So, somehow it was damaged in transit or after it arrived at the dealer.
I'm not sure where to go from here. Pay for something that broke after it left my possession or fight. Fight who? Mercedes roadside already told me to eat it so I don't know what to do. Anyone here have any insight?

What did you ever find out as I have an identical problem with mine..mine will only start after you do the transmission reset with the gas pedal to floor for 2 min & that's only sometimes..I don't want to take it to the dealer as it will cost more to fix than what its worth
