ml intermittent vibration ???

Hello,

I'm hoping you can help. I own a Merc ML W164 350. Around 66k miles.

If I drive the car from cold...nice and steady everything seems fine... but if the car has been driven hard, at speed then it seems to develop a vibration through the transmission.

where it's really obvious is when i'm doing 30 to 40 mph, brake down to 15 / 20 mph then go back on the accelerator pedal... it's almost as if the car is in too high a gear for the speed, sometime the vibration stay....sometimes not.

i have taken it to one garage who immediately said the transmission fluid needed changed.

does this sound like ti would fix the problem?....i can't see how ?

thanks

It probably would not be a bad idea to have a complete transmission service done .
Lots of folks seem to recommend one every 40 000 miles.

silvasnow - did you resolve this problem?

I have a similar problem and have just replaced the transmission fluid but the vibration is still there between 20-40mph under hard acceleration.

Change your front diff fluid and look for speckles of metal from your bearings. Feel the top of your horn pad while driving and see if there is vibration. This is also the sign of front diff bearing failure.

Kennyr, please explain further as to why touching the horn pad diagnoses a problem with the front dif.

Did you have this problem already? Very interested.

Update

Hello everyone I havent been into this forum for a while .. I posted this update below on another forum ........ I was interested in the comment regards the front diff fluid.....

Hello, I was hoping for some opinions regards ongoing vibration issues i notice in my 2010 ML 350.

I purchased the car used with around 65k miles on it. soon after i noticed vibration at times but more often than not it was when going slightly up hill, 40 mph, 1.2 to 1.5 k revs. Mercedes diagnosed it as a failed torque converter... i managed to get it replaced (free of charge..long story)... however it never fully went away.

sometimes a slight shudder but also on very smooth flat roads feels like i'm going over small bumps.....recently i've been putting the car into neutral when driving for some fault finding....no change to sensation when in gear or out...

points to note....

my break pads do need changed...just a pass last year but done now... when breaking there is also a distinct shudder...

my tyres are very cheap and two of them have been repaired..

lastly its at its worst when driving on country roads in that i'm switching between accelerator and break constantly...after a run like that the car starts to feel sluggish....rough...like it's dragging...struggling to go.

what's the thoughts?...maybe a combination of poor tyres and sticking break calipers when breaks heat up ?? or something more serious ?

any help / thoughts appreciated

cheers

Might be the front differential ?

Kennyr might be onto something .
If you lightly touch your steering wheel , does the vibration feel like it comes through it ? That might be an indicator that there is something wrong on the front end..
What does the dealership diagnose ?

Hello Beerj. Thanks for your reply.

yes....when i touch the steering wheel there is a slight vibration coming through..

my car is due a service. Its a good friend of mine that i take it to so i'll ask him to check the front diff and ask if he can check / change the transmission fluid. I haven;t been back to the main dealer yet... my torque converter came with a 2 year warranty and i've only had it 1.5 years . if it continues i'll take it back and ask them to check the torque converter....

regards the torque converter is it possible that a brand new torque converter changed by a mercedes garage can go bad...go faulty ??

thanks
