2009 ML350 AC issue - need help troubleshooting

Hello

I have a ml350 4matic 2009 with 55k miles.

The ac has been acting up since last year sporadically. The fan blows but do not blow out cold air. I turning off the car and start again, sometimes it would work again. I read from forum that turning it off ac button for 15 min and turn it back on to allow ice to melt and this method works sometimes. Sometimes i leave it alone and it would start working in 20 min. Eventually it will start working after driving for may be 15 or 20 min based on my observation. During the time that it is NOT working - when i leave the setting to "AUTO" i can hear the Fan blows stronger for 20 seconds, then it blows weaker for 30 seconds, and then blows stronger for another minute.... and from time to time, it just blows the air weaker. I am not sure if this is an indication of something else is wrong.

I have question on following.

1. Anyone from nyc bayside area know of a reputable indy shop around?
2. When it is working - the radiator fan does run. and i can feel the low pressure pipe is ice cold.
3. Why does this happen on a HOT day only?

Right now my guess is there isnt enough freon - but i dont have a gauge to check. I am thinking of buying a can of r134a just to use the gauge to measure.

Thanks.

Your car does not have the self diagnostics that older cars had, therefore you need the diagnostic software and or a set of AC gauges to correctly diagnose the AC system. All else is BS HS and supposition plus your problem does not get solved.

Now if you are broke, divorced or lost a job and have mouths to feed forget about spending money on diagnosing the AC system, get the family outa the storage unit!!
