Price Check on Dealer Looking for Electrical Problem

I have a major electrical issue on my 2006 CLK500 Cabriolet that may have been caused by a roof leak that soaked the carpet. I drove car to dealer but dash was constantly displaying warnings. The MB dealer called and said to see if the problem was under the floor it would be $1000 to remove the carpets and check wire connections and modules. The $1000 to see if that was the problem was a little shocking. Is this realistic or should I drive the car home and see if I can find a Mercedes Mechanic that would be a little less aggressive on the pricing to find the problem. Thanks,

Most indys will love to jump on this type of job---simply spend an hour and bill 150.00 ,but no solution---next time spend two hours and bill 300.00--still no solution, next time spend four hours and bill 600---ah a solution---you have water damage and it will take three or four hours to try and get it dry--bill 600.00 and let the car dry out for a week or put in a heated paint booth for a couple of hours---wada deal
