A couple things. The width is not as much a factor in ride as the sidewall height. The typical goal is to keep the OD of the tires close to stock. That means each 1" large you go in the wheel diameter the sidewall decreases 1/2". This is done by lowering the aspect ration (height:width) of the tire. While tire models have some variance in ride quality, it is unlikely a 20" tire will ride as well as most 19s. The maximum width depends on wheel offset and width. The ...

"I got a diamond white 2014 ml350 blueTec 4Matic ( it's not air suspension )) . I want to order a set of 20" asanti classy rims but I don't know what WIDEST tire size I can or is best to go with the 20" rims so It will still allow me to keep my smooth luxury ride. ( or if it's even possible to go with a wide tire to keep the smooth luxury ride ). I live down south and NO snow. I really need some help with this. Can anyone help with some advice? Thanks Tonya"

I wish I could have ordered it on my '12. The front and wheels are definitely better, IMO. The rear is no improvement. The Sport interior is also something to consider.

"Hi Non of the dealers I have been to have this package on their inventory stock. I am starting to wonder if it is worth the $2500 price tag just for some extra body styling. Any thoughts?. Anyone been lucky enough to compare side by side. Does it make a big difference to the look of the Vehicle? TIA Mark"

If ride comfort is important, I would not go above 20s. Airmatic helps, but larger sizes will definitely compromise the ride. Even the ML63 comes stock with 265 width, which is fine for all around performance. If you want a wider look you can go 285 or 295 with the proper tires, but be aware that the extra weight is detrimental to overall performance and handling.

"I HAVE A 2014 ML350 BLUETEC COMING INN AT THE END OF NOVEMBER. IM TRING TO DECIDE IF I WANT TO PUT 20'S, 21'S OR 22'S ( RIMS ) ON THE VECHICAL WITH WIDER TIRES 285/35 TIRES. I WAS THINKING ABOUT THE 22'S BUT.... I WANT TO STILL KEEP A VERY VERY GOOD RIDE AS I FELT WHEN I TEST DROVE A ML350 BEFORE ORDERING ONE. I WOULD LIKE A WIDER TIRES BUT NOT NO THIN TIRES OR LOW PROFILE TIRES. I WANT SOME THICKNESS ON THE TIRES FOR A GOOD COMFORT LUXURY RIDE. CAN I GET SOME ADVICE TO SEE WHAT RIM SIZE LOOKS BEST AND STILL GIVES A GREAT LUXURY RIDE OF COMFORT. AS WELL AS OPION ON THE WIDTH (WIDENESS OF TIRE ). I NEED SOME HELP."

"TSP+ applies only to M-Class built after , after the door sill has been reinforced. Earlier builds were not tested for Small Overlap Test and does not qualifies for TSP+. Mercedes has been caught on the hop on this one, Subaru is already ace-ing this crashworthiness test with many models, and with better crash result than Mercedes."
Wow, I waited 8 months to get my '12 the way I wanted it! Regarding the options, RSE & PSM came bundled for MY12, but are now separate.

"Really!?I used to do it with BMWs back then but I was deployed a lot so I had time. Now I just go to the dealership and take whatever they have."
Even worse, for the '12 you had to order Rear Seat Entertainment pre-wire to get the passenger seat memory!
Quoted from 14MLBT's post
"I've had my 14 MLBT for about three weeks now and I just noticed I don't have the memory seat on the pax side! I was kind of sad because I had to adjust my seat manually when the wife drove, LOL."
Yes, ride quality is better. Also, you can increase stiffness for curvy roads, it automatically compensates for loads and you can raise the vehicle close to 4" for deep water, snow or off-road.

"So how do you like your Airmatic suspension? If you had to do it over again.....would you still order your ML with Airmatic or with out? Does the Airmatic really improve the ride quality over standard steel spring suspension set up?"
I run 32-34F, 34-36R, same as regular. Lower pressures are better in soft stuff.
recommended tire pressure?
"Hi, what's the recommended tire pressure? On my way home from the dealership with my new ML350, the tire pressure warning light's up, saying the current tire pressure is 38psi. But it didn't say the recommended tire pressure. Checked the label beside the door, it only says the tire pressure for full load, 45psi for front and 48 for rear. This sounds too high. Then found another label in gas filler cap, which says 32 psi for both front and rear. Wrote to MB and dealer, both got ignored. So where can I find the recommended tire pressure? Thanks a lot."
You are posting on the W166 forum (2012-), but most of us have experience with the W164. That tire size is perfect. You can use wheels off the newer model as well. More information on offsets and tire sizes in your manual.

"Selling my our 2007 Acura MDX Elite, and buying a ML 350 Diesel. Have a brand new set of Michelin Ice-X tires with maybe 2000 miles on them, would like to keep them rather than buying new tires. In 2006 Merc made a 255/55R18 tire, a five spoke that looks good. Was considering purchasing four of these wheels and using them for the winter tire change for a few months. Does anyone know if these will bolt or how to find out the offsets on a merc ML? Thanks"
I don't care for the nanny options myself, except Blind Spot Assist would be one I'd have ordered if it had been available separately. Depend on what type of driver you are, but if you want to drive instead of be transported a lot of the electronics are unnecessary and may be major maintenance expenses in the future.

"Hello everyone, This is my first Mercedes and I've been debating whether the other options such as Lane Tracking, Parking Assist or the Driver Assist Package are useful and worth it. I figured I always look over my shoulder now quickly to change lanes so why need Lane Tracking, and well parking your car is parking your car. This would also be my first SUV after driving sedans for years so it makes me feel like these options might be more necessary. Since my car isn't going to be built until Nov. I assume I can still make changes to the order."
Stuttgart/Ruckersville (USA). The Mercedes-Benz M-Class has succeeded in passing what is now the stricter crash test carried out by the American Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), picking up the "Top Safety Pick+" (TSP+) award in the process. The premium SUV already received five stars in the U.S. NCAP and Euro NCAP tests in 2012. As a result of this latest award, the M-Class has again achieved the best marks and defended its leading position in three of the ...
I'm hoping that's what it is and not a random defect. I'll report back if it's the latter. Thanks.

"For what it is worth, I have noticed a few times with my '12 ML (keyless go) that after turning it off and opening the door, the radio stayed on, along with the instrumentation. As you know, normally, the radio and accessories stay powered for a while until you open the door. In these cases, they did not power down. Note the engine was off, so clearly, I had hit the button. I suspect however that I may have unwittingly (hey, I'm human!) hit it a second time, but without my foot on the brake, the engine did not start, but the systems were otherwise powered. Not sure exactly what happened in your case Greg, but I can see something like that happening in the cases I have experienced, and I would have to put it down to my error."
I do have Keyless Go. All signs now point to me leaving the vehicle without turning it off, which I've never done before. Edit, Thinking of it though, you have to hit the start button once when you turn the engine off, then everything turns off when you open the door. Not like my M3 where you have to hit the button twice.

"Do you have Keyless Go? The good lady has been used to Keyless go in the MLs, and the Audi. One week after getting the A200 (which is not available with Keyless), she shut off the engine but left the key in the ignition. Next morning, everything was dead. Roadside assist kindly started it, and we drove it for 100km and now everything is perfect. But apparently just turning off the key does not turn everything off. I presume the A200 works the same as a non Keyless ML."
2012 ML350, under 15 months old and 14k miles. Drove it to dinner Saturday night with no problems. Parked it about 10pm and 12 hours later battery was totally flat. Nothing was left on. I spent 10 hours charging it at 10 amps and when charged everything appeared normal, except the wipers had moved part of a sweep, stopped and would not work. Left it overnight thinking I'd take it in this morning, but today everything is fine. Battery held exactly 12.67 V overnight. ...
Don't know if I'd want that in my M3 - you get stopped and cop may want video evidence of "misdeeds"! Found this site that may be useful:
installed camera..caught this today
"not sure what her deal was but I'm gonna find out...could it be I parked across two stalls in a totally empty lot ? I came out to find my wiper extended and also had this done last week with the rear wiper also out..today she also twisted passenger mirror back 180 from closed position...grr...scratched the side of fender (minor)....(yes I must reposition the camera to clear the detector and give full frontal view) These cameras are very handy..I have them in all my vehicles...here's last Friday in my Corvette.."
That's the AMG Styling one with bigger front ducts.

My wife managed to lock her key in the car, twice (it's hard, but there are at least two ways - ask me). Of course this was after we had let MBrace lapse - would have been nice to have. Having the accident notification for my wife is just peace of mind, to.
I canceled my MBrace today. Feel bumpy
"Canceled my MBrace 30 mins ago. Feel Bumpy. But I really don't feel like i need it. I barely use the app or the service. When i called in to cancel, the special service representative keeps saying, "if you get into an accident, this could save your life". She repeated so many times, i felt like i was cursed. After talking on the phone for 30 mins, she finally said, "okay I will go ahead cancel the service for you now. But before that, ill read you the disclaimer." Then, once again, she repeated if i got involved into a car accident, the overhead panel will locked, it won't work. I won't be able to press the 【sos】 button, the emergency service won't be triggered, and so on so on. After the 6 months trail, i had the service for a year. And it was renewed two days, I don't ..."

Here's the official chart of clearances which I posted in this thread . It's showing 8" with steel springs, 10" with Airmatic and another 1" or so with Off Road. I think the lowering at speed is only about 1/2".
Quoted from AZHiker's post
"I have a MY 2013 ML350 Bluetec with airmatic suspension and 4matic. I would have bought the off road package, but it wasn't available in USA with the diesel. The literature I found for my vehicle indicates just under 8" normal ground clearance and just over 10" ground clearance at high setting. That's less than an inch lower than off-road package max ground clearance. The suspension lowers at high speeds to conserve fuel, maybe that's the 5" figure you indicate. But lowering at high speeds is barely detectable, so I doubt its that much."
