Agreed. Too complicated for my simian brain. Hopefully Glyn with his giant brain can answer this one.
The complicated W203 Radiator Fan question
"Hi All, As we all know there is only one variable speed radiator fan in the w203 and it works on input from (1)The refrigerant pressure/temp sensor and (2)The coolant temp sensor. If Im not mistaken, the following are inputs taken from the pressure sensor: Refrigerant Pressure: 20 BAR - Fan On Full Refrigerant Pressure: >12"

The m111 2.3L Kompressor motor has a problem with coolant leakage at the # 4 cylinder. Mine's been leaking for over 50K miles, and I just add a little coolant every once in a while. Now at 207K miles, and not really worth bothering with the gasket alone since an entire engine with < 100K miles can be had for under a grand. You'll see some white residue leaking down the side of the engine. Good news, it just seems to push out the side and not into the engine. It mostly ...
Quoted from wond3r's post
"2002 Mercedes c230, auto, about 120,000 km on it. We have recently gotten low coolant warnings, bought zerex and topped it up and the warning would eventually come back (within the month). Pop the hood and there was less coolant and had to be topped up. The weird part is that there is no coolant on the ground on the driveway ever. So we just keep a bottle of Zerex in the trunk and top up whenever we need to. Took it to a few different shops and they all said the same thing, something about a gasket that wuold cost $4000+ to replace. Took it to our local/family mechanic and he raised the car and removed some sort of plastic housing from the engine and there was a bunch of coolant in it that just poured out. I guess there was no leaks on the ground because the plastic was holding it in. ..."

There's a show from Britain called "wheeler dealers" where some poor fool sells his Porsche boxter S for $1500 (pounds) because the tranny was slipping. Well guess what, it's the same "NAG 2" ZF transmission used in the Mercedes. They changed the fluid and filter, and the car was perfect. The mechanic guy, Ed China comments that almost nothing ever goes wrong with these transmissions other than the fluid and filter not being replaced. The "722.6" also known as the ZF ...
Transmission failure and fluid replacement
"My W203 C200k wagon lost power the other day. I turned the motor off and 5 mins later it drove just fine. The mechanic said it was tramsmisison failure and I would need a whole new system. I asked him to change the filter and fluid which he reluctantly did. He said the filter was almost blocked with metal debris and the fluid was black. Now it seems to be working fine, although I feel that on steep hills there's a small amount of surging. It could all be in my head... BUT.... have I ruined this thing? and should I expect a very short lifespan? Or is this normal? I have read the and I am prepared to do another flush as the mechanic only replaced a few litres. Thanks Matt"
Not sure about useful info but this happened to me also, Though mine was not quite so catastrophic. It did get a bit melty but not to the point of effecting the actual fuse box. If you search the EPC you may find a repair kit. I would try a lower Amperage fuse just to see if it works. 40A is a lot of current. Perhaps a 30A would be better and replace it more frequently without melting stuff. I'm guessing your fuse was defective or you had the wrong fuse.
Heat and A/C work, but fan doesn't. Blower motor fuse blown/exploded. Please help.
"I couldn't find any information on this particular problem. My heat and air work and I can feel it coming through at highway speeds, but the fan doesn't blow it into the cabin, so the dial for fan speed does nothing. I checked the fuses and the fuse for the "blower motor" appears to have had a pretty violent explosion. A new fuse won't even go in the slot because some of the bits are still in there from the old one. Is this as simple as replacing this fuse, or does this indicate a serious problem? I'd rather not have to go to a shop for this if I don't absolutely have to. Any useful information on what I should do or what part(s) may need replacing would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Pics of the old fuse and its slot are attached."
Well, you'll be sure to catch some flack for the AMG badge, but thats all part of the fun. Welcome to the forum! Car looks nice!
I've had the same problem for 100K miles now, doesn't seem to effect anything other than it goes 'ssssssssssssssss' all the time. Curious to see what people say here.
Brake Vacuum Pump leaking "tskkkk" sound
"Hey guys, Recently my brake vacuum pump is making a hissing sound. When I step on the brake the sound is gone.Pretty much the elastic like band on is no longer effective. My uncle who's a mechanic tried to fix it with tape but it didn't work. He said duct tape wouldn't work because the plastic is too soft. ( FWIW he's not the best handy man)He also checked with mercedes and says you have to buy like a whole brake assembly part to fix it which wouldn't be cost effective. Just wondering does anyone know any good sealant or tape that would work with it?"
If you hit the brakes does the sound go away? If so it's just the pads touching the rotors. Fairly normal unless it's horrifically loud.
Wierd backend noise
"Noticed a new noise recently. When driving at low speeds i hear a "wuh... wuh... wuh..." noise coming from the back end of the car. When speeding up, the noise also speeds up.... "wuh-wuh-wuh-wuh". Tires are brand new (less than 2000 miles on them), but i do need a brake job. I'm thinking that this might be warped rotors touching the break pad as the rotors rotates. Any thoughts?"
help with 12v power outlet in the centre console
"hello do anyone have any ideas on installing a 12v power outlet in my 2007 merc c230. I don't want to run a cable all the way from the battery. Is there any where i can splice the cable or tap into anything for this or from the fuse box Is is just to power up a bluetooth."
Mmm. C160. What's the specs on that? Power, size and fuel consumption?
HELP! another "Check Oil Level at Next Gas Station" thread
"So I got this message just when arriving to work today... To get to the place that sells oil with correct specs I need to drive 100 miles. However, I have some 5-40 semi-synthetic available where I am. So what is best way to get to the workshop (or "least bad"); Driving with low level with the old/low (but correct) oil, or topping up with the semisynth? Car has just over 50k miles and 7000miles since last change. Thanks"
He's not talking about the cylinder head. Sorry to hear of your troubles, but really how could YOU take a almost new Mercedes to those trunk monkeys? Learn to change your own oil, find a competent mechanic, OR last resort use the dealer. Though on newer car, dealer is good for stuff like this since they will fix anything else they find for free and update service bulletins. Hope you have a receipt from JL showing what oil and filter was used, and/or the actual ...

"Also I would recommend getting your head examined for taking your new Mercedes to anywhere like a Jiffy Lube."

C240 - price of repainting rear bummer?
"I was in a minor car accident today with a Mercedes C240 (below are photos of the damage). I hit the rear bummer at a very low speed. The large scratch on the right side of the bumper was there before, but I think the chipped paint is from where my license plate hit her car. Any idea (ballpark) of how much it will be to repaint the areas where the paint is chipping? Thanks!"
Ary, The 209 pn didn't come up. I ran the 203 pn you gave a got a whole slew of part #'s depending on VIN including some 209 #'s. For a definitive answer, please post your VIN. But meanwhile, here's the parts list with crossovers from the EPC based on 2002 C200 Coupe (in 2002 we only had coupe in Kompressor models here in USA, and didn't have the 200)
ESP Part Code
"H there, I am just wondering if you guys know an accurate code part of ESP for my car W203 C200 2002. I got trouble with ESP module which has code part of 209 545 02 32. However friend of mine told me that code part should be 203 545 17 32 instead. Could you please help me? Should I replace the old one with a new ESP code part of 209 545 02 32 or 203 545 17 32? Thank you. Ary"
That guy has a really cool website with lots of good info however, he stops short of the 203 chassis.
C230 Sport Coup's All things AT Transmission related
"So, just flushed my tranny last weekend. And got the report back from . For those of you just joining this discussion (thats spread all over the forums on several different platforms) Start reading The automatic tranny is one of the most expensive items to repair on the vehicle, and for people like me, a complete mystery as far as anything DIY. But you can improve your shifting, and hopefully extend the life of the tranny by flushing on a regular basis. I paid the dealer in Sac to do a flush, but the invoice showed only 4 quarts were used. For the record, on late model cars with the 5 speed auto tranny, nearly 9 quarts are needed (consult your owners manual) and as Mercedes saw fit to delete the drain plug from the torque converter, and proper flush requires 13 quarts according to the ..."
Sad to be leaving Benz ownership...
"Well, my wife and I closed the deal on a new Audi Quattro A4 today. The deal seemed very good and its a bit of a change. Very sad to be selling the W203 which has been a terrific car since we owned it."

Bypassed the EIS so I don't have to replace it.
"K I have the 2002 c230, took it in cuz the AC blew hot air. At the shop, the key won't turn in the ignition switch, but still unlocks the car. Wipers stop working. What my mechanic did, was run a connection between the ignition and the starter that bypasses the relay in the EIS, SO: I would have to turn the key, and then hit a button to start the car. I don't mind it, because it saves having to worry about the damn relay in the EIS and replacing it and then worrying about keys if they have to be reprogrammed or replaced. Also it seems like a cool security feature for the car; anyway. Problem is, once he wired it up, didn't work. So I might have to just get the damn part after all. I've got a few questions, but feel free to comment on any part of this in order to help me with ..."
Greg, I got stock springs and shocks, but curious what you going to do with your CO's? Are they the regular ones or adjustable dampeners?
Help! Looking for Some OEM Parts
"I am looking to put my 03 C320 back to stock, so looking for the following parts: OEM Front and Rear Brakes OEM Suspension Shift Knob (black) Please email me at email@example.com, if you have any of them."
This was posted before, but just a reminder to coupe owners to lube your sunroof once a year! Attached is the maint. doc.
Hard to believe but true. Was all ready to replace them, had the wheel off, ,pads in hand, and new rotors...and daaamn...it didn't need it. Of course I have C32 brakes which are overkill to start with.
Quoted from VVF's post
"I would measure the thickness of the rotors for the peace of mind (search for minimums). Some go with ceramic pads (Pagid pads for instance) - MUCH less dust and longer life vs OEM (C230 Sport Coup has what, about 120k on his front pads?)"

Brit, You still around? What was the resolution? I have a P0171 error I need to clear up.
C230 Coupe - Oxygen sensors, etc
"Hi all, My car failed its inspection yesterday, due to 4 errors (all related). My check engine light has been on for a while, which I've been intending to get fixed as well. The 4 errors were: P0141 O2 Sensor B1 S2 Htr Malf P0136 O2 Sensor B1 S2 Malf P0171 Bank 1 System Too Lean P0138 O2 Sensor B1 S2 High Volt My car is generally driving ok, except sometimes when pushing the gas hard, it seems to lack responsiveness / power. Anyhow. Last night I did quite an big search of this forum and via google. I found the DIY for replacing the MAF which I need to refer to at some point. I also found quite a suprising amount of information about 'cleaning' various parts, such as the connectors for the MAF, etc that may resolve the issue. It appears from others posts the really the O2 Sensors ..."
