What is "rail dust"? Never heard of it....
Quoted from cookstar's post
"Just like to update everyone, my Gl which is less than a year old has the back bumper covered with rail dust, it would take a person hours to clay bar it, I am taking the vehicle to my dealer tomorrow to see how they will fix it, I figure I will have to do this every 8-12 months. 600 seems worth it over 5 years as you would spend around 250 each time going to a detail shop (which I don't trust any). at least if MB screws up you know it will be fixed."

Do we all agree that the 21 amg rims with 295/35/22 tires are not the best if you are located were it snows a lot? I should go with narrower tires like 265? Thanks :-) Ya, naturlich - besser: For winter, either look in your OM for a smaller rim size recommendation or look at your full size spare and see what that rim size is. That will be the smallest you can run and will be more suitable for a dedicated winter tire than a 20-21" rim! We have 17" wheels and Scorpion Snow ...

The engineers did, but MB mgmt opted for the lowest bidder when it came to parts. If you look at the new parts they are an update over the old.

My spark plug gapper has a tool that grasps the "node" and you can bend it slightly and the remeasure. Old school. I'd be leery of tapping having been taught this way.
Quoted from HeissRod's post
"If you want to close the spark plug gap, gently tap the node on a hard surface. If you want to open the gap, gently pry it open with your spark plug gapper."

A call to MBUSA informed me that I can buy the New Car Extended Warranty before either 4 years or 50k miles are up. After the first year there is an optional 15% surcharge.
Quoted from grane's post
"Does the MB New Car Warranty start on the in-service date or the actual deli very date? Dealers sometimes book the car as "in service" when there is a deposit and the car arrives from MBUSA. The buyer may take actual delivery some time later. This practice is frowned upon by many State DMVs, BTW. What kind of experience did you have with the gentleman recommended? I'm looking for an Extended Warranty for our 2013 GLK 4matic. Have about a month or two left to make a purchase."
You require summer tires and winter tires. A/S are a poor compromise. Keep your existing wheels for one set and get another for the other tires. If you go with a PLUS 1 wheel config for your new tires they should be the summers. I use PSS in the summer (transformational with my Racing Brake upgrade ) and am debating whether to get Pilot PA4s or X-ice 3s for the winter. Both on 18" AMG rims on the CL. My wife has 19" wheels with Continentals that came with the GLK for ...
Best Ultra-High-Performance All-Season Tire?
"Hello all, My car came with OEM Continental Grand Touring All-Season which won't work for me in the next few months and especially with the hard rain we get in NYC. I had Continental DWS for 2yrs in my Cadillac STS (RWD) and it was great. Had Bridgestone All-Season RFT in my bmw for a year but since it was RFT + AWD car I didn't seem to have any issues. But now debating to sell my current tires only or sell the 17"s as well save the hassle since I have no storage either. Contemplating on getting 17 AMG or 18's. The DWS again or this new Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 that came out. The Michelin hasn't been tested in winter conditions and I really want the best one in Rain/Snow. Anyone here have any good/bad exprience? Bridgestone Potenza RE970AS Pole Position Continental ..."

I admire your taste, sir. If you buy, get a pre-owned one with a CPO. If you use the vehicle offroad as we do, one does not need the AMG version. The 113 engine maintained is a wonder. Windows and inner door latches are an issue. My 02 is worth what I paid for it used in 2007. If I could own only one MB it would be a G.
Quoted from Milobeans22's post
"yeah, i floored it on an on-ramp in a 2013 G550 and, while the experience was still exhilarating, i was left wanting more. i suspect the amg won't leave me with that same feeling. i think i'm with you....if i could act today, it'd be the G55. now if i could only get out of my X5 lease..........patience is a virtue."
It maybe essentially the same exhaust after the cat. This true of the G5XX and the G55. Same p/n.
Quoted from Luxurious' post
"In the case of these two cars, yes, I think so. The G550 exhaust sounds much closer to an AMG exhaust than on other MB models, e.g. E550 vs E63, so you won't miss out on the signature AMG sound . Or it seems the best option might be to wait 6 mo. until a pre-owned G63 comes into your price range."
One should get the smallest wheels possible if you want to avoid wheel damage, all things being equal, since the tire has more sidewall. I myself would not choose this 20" size nor a brand that was not TUV tested.
Quoted from jett3jett's post
"Driving in nyc can be a living nightmare. I did not opt for wheel/tire protection so I am seriously considering purchasing 20" AMG reps I was quoted $1400 with tires after some haggling Obviously the wheel quality is not parallel to the real thing, however I may just go purchase the set tomorrow because replacing 1 rim and tire will cost more alone....Plus I achieve a sportier look thoughts anyone?"

You need to take your VIN to the MB parts counter to get the correct filter. I have not been able to find an aftermarket filter for the car, 13 350 4matic. I use an air compressor oil extractor and changed the oil at 7.5kmiles. I use Mobil 1 ONLY and insist that the dealer does also when I bring the car in to preserve the warranty. The dealer does free oil changes...so the actual interval will be 5k miles as the car ages.. I change the air filter once a year. Don't think ...
Oil Filter, Oil Drain Plug, Daylight Running Lights questions
"I just got my GLk and have a few questions. First, I like changing my own oil and filter. I do my first one at 1000 miles and then every 7500 afterwards (I know it is overkill, but good habits are hard to break). Do you know where the oil filter located? Looked into the engine compartment and could not find it. Do you know where the oil pan drain plug located? I looked under the car, there is a platic covering, I assume it is some where below it, but would like to confirm before removing it. Daylight running lights - I have the lighting package. Is it the xeon lights that turn on or the other one? I am concerned about shortining its life by the xeon being on all the time. Your input will be much appreciated."
Anyone experience the front suspension bottoming out (hitting the spring pads I assume) on normal roads that have a series of frost heaves? Occurs on the side loaded with driver only or both sides with the passenger. No other load in the car. To me this is either a fault or a design flaw. I have not checked for shock leaks yet. I am not referring to hitting a pothole. We have standard 19" wheels and Conti tires the car came with. About 8k miles. I don't recall this ...
Consider a SXM adaptor and receiver. Lot of music genres and news. NavTV and others make kits that interface with the MOST system, and they have dealers/installers in most metro areas. SXM has recently upgraded the quality of their signal so it can be decoded into a multichannel higher bandwidth sound by the typical MB Comand system. This also preserves the ateering wheel controls.
CD Changers... Anyone still using em?
"Any of you guys still using CD changers? If not what are you doing with the space? During some searching I've seen some folks using the pockets in place of the changer... I think AMGfan used the space for a switch panel but never saw pics of it..."

If you take a look at your Owner's Manual in the back there is a diagram for the serpentine belts that call out the idler pulleys. Another way is to go to with your VIN. The less expensive pulleys are idler pulleys. You can call them and they will be helpful. shardul might be able to get u something here on the board if you send him a PM. BTW I replace these pulleys and belt(s) every 50k mile and keep the old ones in the trunk as spares in the MB boxes (unless they are ...
CL65 Engine Pulleys I did search !

RB has the technical resources to look up the required dimensions. It maybe that the C63s rotors will work (as the OP said) in which case you are good to go. If they are you have a choice of pads listed on the website. My CL55s front and rear fit perfectly and I was the guinea pig. They are remarkable. I usually communicate with RB via phone or email on the website. Since they are on many Forums for different brands/PMs the media I listed are more accessible to the entire ...
Quoted from TopGun32's post
"my quick research through the forums.. seems to point that stock C63 (non pp) rotors should be a direct fit. I wonder why they don't have these issues.. I was thinking of ordering a set of C63 rotors... but only if I can return them if they don't fit."

Sponsor Racing Brake designs and manufactures a superior product. For example, they have a superior interior/exterior anti-corrosion, self cleaning, and cooling designs that are patented. RB has them in stock for the CL55 etc. You should consider being an RB dealer since they are a real company, have multiple patents on brake design, and can meet your supply needs.

MBUSA doesn't care to get involved. They will put it back on the dealer to fix the problem. The MBUSA customer care folks won't even give you their last name.... Unless you have a caring dealer who understands service as well as sales you will be put on the s**t list in the dealer/MB database. Therefore, don't sign any service orders when you go to pay your bill.

theraven333 makes sense. Also have them check them the calipers for problems or a TSB. These are more likely to be replaced under a warranty than the rotors or pads if your VIN doesn't apply. If you could let us know the models and years for the rotor TSB that would be helpful, thanks. The new MB TRW pads are very good indeed, BTW.
Quoted from TopGun32's post
"its a issue.. there is TSB about width of rotors.. my service advisor is checking if my vin applies He said he probably won't be able to apply 100% repair but he is checking on it since it only applies to W212 for now. if they don't I can get the rotors for about $120 a piece plus the pads."

When did MB introduce the "nano paints" and for which models initially? Is there a way to tell by the color code? Standard black paint code seems to be "040" since the early 21st century....
Quoted from fabbrisd1's post
"Whatever... a lot of earlier kindof dated info.. 1) Einszett Glanz Wax (Blue Top) for sealant specifically designed for the Mercedes nano clearcoat as a sealant - under $20 on Amazon - consistency like water - objective one section at a time is a thin even coat - let dry/cure for 30 minutes - then wipe off - one can good for like 5-6 GLK's about 6 months apart 2) For additional depth/lustre about 2 weeks later you can add a layer of any good spray "nano" carnuba... again a simple wipe on and wipe off product. Einszett is great for the wheels too, and won't cloud trim.. new tech and affordable.. great thing about new paint tech if your MB is clean, absolutely positively no buffing neded ever..."
Our resto guy uses this exclusively and has for the several generations of product. If you go to the Eagle One website their new product seems as easy to apply as NuFinish! BTW in 08 3M bought Meguiars so it makes sense that their already good products are improving. In the body shop/resto world pros use 3M products; they are the quality standard.
