Lewis and Nico--F1

... for all the marbles-the World Championship in Abu Dhabi on Sunday and many of you know. Mercedes AMG has clinched the Constructors Championship. (Anybody but Red Bull this year.) Lewis has 10 wins to Nico's 5 but needs to finish second if Nico wins. Should be fun.

C63 AMG
Lewis the Man

.....LH.....NR
Wins 11 5
DNF 2 1
Start back of grid 2 1
Spa
Monaco
NR held an edge in qualfying in some part due to LH mechanical issues
But no points for pole and we see how that turned out today and in Austin
iirc LH won more than a few from off pole NR only did it when LH had a dnf or other mechanical issue

In every race except Brazil when niether had a problem LH won
It was only close due to the contrived and manipulated point system

What's going to happen to the guy who called Lewis to pit while the safety car was out at Monaco? What should happen?

Unbelievable! I felt SO bad for Lewis!

I was watching the race this morning.....Unbelievable....Why the team ordered to change tire? No sense. Overtaking in Monaco is near to impossible. Instead of having 28 point ahead of Rosberg...He is only 10!

The super soft tires lasted almost half the race and he was on the harder tires so there was no reason to worry his tires would go away. He had a 15 - 20 second lead so even if his tires did start to go away, he wouldn't have had much trouble keeping the lead because, as you say, it's almost impossible to pass.

Just an idiot move and one nobody else did. He was bit by a similar boneheaded move a few races ago. One has to wonder what they're going to do with the guy who made that decision...

Did you go to the race?

It was a good one. I was hoping Lotus would do better, but it was a good race all around. And we found out that the mistake at Monaco was partially Lewis' as he called to pit for tires. Of course, his crew should have advised against this but that's history.

It seems clear to me that Lewis and MB is the class of the field. Nico is very good and seems like a nice, approachable, easy-going guy, but Lewis is even better and much more intense, focused, and confident and probably worth the reported $50M/year for the next three years!

I'm interested in what his reaction will be when he has his reaction will be when he matches or eclipses Senna's record of wins. He reacted very strongly when Senna died (see at 0:47)
Schumacher was very emotional when he equaled Senna's record
It won't be long...

No I did not go to the race, I went only once and it was an amazing feeling, that was back in the 80s.

I agree with you, Lewis since last year is way more focused, incredibly fast and better in race day than Nico. He seems also more arrogant (might be self-confidence) which I believe it is needed, just think about Prost, Lauda, Senna, Schumacher, G. Villeneuve, Vettel.

At that level of competition all drivers are good, some are excellent and few are the greatest. Lewis is one of them, just look at Monaco this year, before the safety care came-in Lewis had 20+ sec ahead of Nico, both have exactly the same car. Last year in Suzuka under rain conditions he overtakes Nico pretty easily. Austin was another good example of what Lewis can do in race day and not Nico. In my opinion the biggest battle I've seen was Bahrain 2014, Lewis wins on wheel to wheel during 2-3 laps even if Nico was on option tire.

I think Lewis is just confident and as you say, he needs to have it. I remember as a teenager, I didn't like A.J. Foyt and Parnelli Jones because I thought they were so cocky (I was also a Chevy fan and they drove Fords ), but when I got older (and raced briefly), I realized their cockiness was just confidence in their abilities - justifiably.

Lewis could be a great. He certainly seems to be making a good argument for that now. He should have won every race this year ("should" is a dangerous word but except for his part in the Monaco fiasco, he had no real responsibility for his two losses) and that's a pretty incredible feat. He looks unstoppable at the moment. Only time will tell.

"Great" should be a term that spans time but there's no way you can really compare the drivers of today with those of even twenty or thirty years ago. The cars are different, but what I think is more important is that drivers in the past had to contend with death. Drivers today do not. Drivers today have great skill, but drivers in the recent past took their life in their hands. It's a huge difference.

I'll be rooting for Lewis and Lotus (since I own one of them, too). Hopefully they both do well.

Great video! That gives the whole story. Thanks! I thought Lewis handled it well. He didn't let him get to him beyond his justified disappointment - at least he didn't let it interfere with the next race - and he didn't blame anybody and he didn't complain (of course he was partially responsible but some might have forgotten that part). I thought it was a pretty classy way of dealing with it - at least in public and I get the feeling that he was good about it in private, too.

This just reminded me of when the season started, the NBC guy asked him how it felt to be the hunted (now that he was the champion) and he said he felt like the hunter. Another case of having your mind right!

I thought he also displayed a lot of discipline when he said he was only looking forward and not dwelling on Monaco. That must have been very hard to do!
