190E 2.6 engine temp

I have just purchased a 190E 2.6. The engine block appears to me to be abnormally hot after driving even a short distance. Although the temperature guage is well within the normal range, the top of the fenders in the front near the hood seem are hot to touch. Is this normal?

If the temp gage is OK then I would not be concerned about it. One thing to check if you purchased the car used is if there is any insulation under the hood thats missing. Perhaps it had been hit in that area and the body shop repairing did not replace the insulation
