Angry How do I reset Check Engine lite

I saw a tech at a shop reset the light once with the ignition key. He turn the ignition on & off several time & the dashboard went into some sort of diagnostic mode. After that the code was gone. I just replaced a mass air sensor they said would cost me $750 installed. I got it in Texas for $219. Just need to reset light & feel if I go to dealer they'll charge me for that too.

I'm afraid you don't have much of a choice. When a mass-airflow sensor goes bad, it brings the engine's fuel trim adaptations down with it. Once the mass-airflow sensor is replaced, the Check Engine light has to be reset of course, but then the self-adaptation values must be reset as well, or the light will come right back on within a matter of miles.

mbtech208,

how does one reset the self adaptation value after the mass air sensor replacement? I can reset the codes with my scanner but what you are saying is that I need to bring it in a shop to reset the self adaptation value.

By the way, my car is a 97 E320 with check engine light (code P0170).

Thanks

Delta

Thats correct Delta

The adaptation values are reset through the Mercedes Computer or their portable lap version as well. I made a friend in my dealer who now takes care of any situation for me (takes computer home with him).... Good Luck

Just replaced the mass air sensor but have not reset the fuel trim adaptation value. Does anyone know if disconnecting the battery for a few minutes would reset the fuel trim adaptation values?

Thanks

1997E320......... thank you for the info on importecparts.com. They have a really good price on the mass air sensor.

that mass sensor you bought is the old number, that is why is cheap, the updated number is 0280 218 080, the old bosch number you had I bet was 0280 217 517

So if I understand correctly, on a Mercedes you can't just use an OBD2 scan tool to read codes and reset the ECU to clear a check engine light?

Need help with enginecheck light (Engine Electronics) light

I have a 1997 E 320 - I washed detailed my car and sprayed the engine with water to clean it. It ran rough after this and today when I went to drive it, the check engine light came on ...and on tachomiter it displays "Engine Electronics" I tried the disconnect battery for a few minutes...did not reset - can this be plugged into a mobile code reader and reset? What can I do?
