'03 C32 Won't start

Was driving fine all day. Parked for five minutes but when I tried starting it again it would turn but would not start. I feels like it's almost starting. No codes. Has electric power.

what is the mileage?

If it's close to 90k miles and the crank position sensor has not
been changed, there is a good chance it's bad.

Hmm it's at 35k miles right now.

EDIT: Mechanic says it was a weak battery. Weird, the car was turning fine just not starting. But he found that the harmonic balancer was vibrating and needed to be changed too but I think it's a ploy to get $$...

EDIT2: He showed me that crank pulley was indeed vibrating and said that it might damage the engine if it goes so I need to get a new crank pulley + idler bearing soon.

There was a flurry of bad dampeners - yours may be included in a campaign. Check with Benz dealer - could be a freebie.

I would change the CPS anyway, or at least buy one and have one handy just in case.

Thanks Waybomb. So harmonic balancer consists of crank pulley + idler bearing? Yeah replacing CPS is a good idea too, although the car did not start after cooling off all night (cold night).

The crank pulley is bolted to the balancer. The idler is a completely seperate device.

You can get the cps much cheaper online than at a dealer. buymbparts.biz, peachparts.com, and others.

Thanks again. Wonder why he thought idler bearing needs to be replaced too.

It is possible the idler bearing is going. If you know how to take off the belt, do so, and spin the idler. It should spin freely. In fact, spin all the driven accessories while you have the belt off. The alt, tensioner, air pump, air cond, and blower (if you have one) should spin freely. The ps pump will have resistance, but should turn smoothly.

Make a drawing of the belt before you take the belt off. Double check your drawing before taking belt off.

Update:

Car wont start again so it was misdiagnosed. Took it to a MB this time and they found fuel pump dead along with a host of related problems. $3100 parts and labor, they wanted to replace fuel tank etc. Was I ripped off or where they right?

//// CHECKED REAR SAM AND FOUND POWER AT REAR SAM FUEL PUMP RELAY AND FUSE//// CHECKED AND FOUND POWER AT FUEL LEVEL SENDING UNIT CONNECTOR, BUT FOUND GROUND PIN CONNECTOR BURNED AND CONNECTOR DAMAGED CAUSING FUEL TO LEAK THROUGH CONNECTOR//////
