Trunk will not shut. Latch motor is grinding.
Hi guys, im new here because my ML350's trunk is not closing and the motor is grinding. I had to take the plastic piece off just to disconnect the motor because im scared it was going to burn out. Anyone else have this problem and what are my options? Thanks guys

Was your car still under warranty? Mine isnt =( theyre charging an arm and a leg for parts and labor. and the latch is only a dealer part from what a few independent shops told me. I dont know of any mercedes benz websites that would list it? Know of any?

Yes I still have a warranty, I think it was going to be $500 for the latch and labor. Search the site for OEM parts there are plenty of stores. I'm not at my computer right now so I can't look for you.

I would have to look at the paperwork and see what they ordered. My wife has the car at work so I cant check until this evening. Mine would close but would not lock into place. It would automatically raise back up, I had to push it down but it was not latched? Luckily it didnt fly open while my wife driving around. I had to use a bungee cord to keep it strapped down from the inside (yea ghetto I know)..

Just like Gonzales25, I had the "close and reopen" problem on my 2010 ML350 Bluetec. I bought a new 164-740-06-35 lock assembly for about $220 and installed it. Problem solved! Job took less than two hours, working slowly. I didn't replace the pop rivets - used M4 nuts and bolts instead. The job was pretty basic -- not hard at all.

Same problem on my ML63. Just ordered the lock assembly after I verified that indeed my existing one is broken. Thanks for the help and guidance.
