Dreaded P0017 code

I recently changed my plugs and shortly thereafter I got MAF code and P0017 bank 1 sensor B code. I must have gotten some dust in the MAF when changing the plugs because after a thorough cleaning and deleting the codes the MFA code did not come back after 60 miles. However the P0017 code and the check CEL came back on. The car is a 2007 E550 with 105k miles. Always changed oil before factory recommendations with Mobil1 and synthetic filters. If this was a bad idler gear my understanding is that the CEL would come back on right away and I would get both P0017 and 0016 codes. Am I correct? And what would be my next step? Replacing the magnets or the sensor? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Remove the sensors, turn the crank manually and check the alignment. Look at the pn for magnets, make sure they are the updated ones. Good luck with this situation. Three things possible: 1)magnets 2)chain 3)gear

Thanks for advice. Is it also possible that the sensor is bad? If it is the chain or gear, would the check engine light come on immediately? What is the p/n for the updated magnets?

So after erasing the P0017 code and about 100 miles of driving the CEL came back on with the P0017 code. I've replaced the exhaust side cam solenoid and erased the code to see if the CEL comes on again. When I pulled the solenoid and the position sensor, the sensor was caked with sludge. There is less than 1000 miles on a Mobil 1 oil change. I cleaned the sensor and am hoping the code doesn't return.
