2006 CLK 350 Convertible
Annoying rattle/squeak in right side passenger compartment
My wife owns a 2006 CLK 350 Convertible. Since just a few months after purchase (2014) we have noticed a squeak/rattle coming from we believed to be the passenger door area. It has become louder over the months. It makes no difference whether the window or convertible top is up or down. The sound only occurs when the car is in motion. The more uneven the road surface the more often the sound occurs.
We just had transmission work done at a local Mercedes dealer and while there we asked then to find and repair the sound problem as well.
In the shop the passenger door panel and rear quarter panel cover were removed. Road test revealed the noise noticeably louder with panels removed. Both left and right window regulators were found to be loose but the sound did not change after tightening. Remaining components were all secure. The technician believed the noise was similar to metal rubbing (similar to a broken spot weld). He recommended a body shop for further investigation.
I'm not sure that a broken spot weld is the cause. Any other suggestions?

Convertible = Major chassis flex. A cars top holds chassis aligned by connecting A,B, and C pillars connected. Reason MB tech advised you to take to body shop is because he is an "A-Hole"!
