Replace a Lost Key for Less than $300?
Greetings,
I'm a first time MB owner - just got a 2014 C300 Sport 4Matic with 10k.
It came with just one key, and the dealer advises $300 for a replacement.
Before I spring for that, are there any ways to save money on that?
Thanks in advance!

2013 MB C250 Sport RWD
Im in the same situation. I bought a 2013 just two weeks ago and it only came with one as well. Completely boggles my mind that they(previous owner/dealership) only have one key!! I traded my car in with TWO. I had that car over 3 years.

I used to think it was just Mercedes gouging but I just bought a new key for my wife's Lincoln MKX - close to $500.

I owned a Lexus ES330 before and I wanna say a key for it was over $300.. guess its because of the technology in the new keys... A blessing and a curse... Need to have a piercing so I can semi-permanently attach the key to my person's so I wont lose it!! Hahaha

Amazon had 2 batteries for $8. Check them out for key fobs too. Also the manual doesn't tell you there are 2 batteries in there and the direction the second battery needs to face. So with the Merc logo facing you make sure the + sign is facing you too.

These key are expensive
I just pick up a key for my 07 E63 AMG, from the stealership, and it cost me $378, it was supposed to come programmed to my specific car but wasn't. It took a week, to sort that issue out but now I'm with no issues.

MB keys
The batteries have no effect at all on the immobilizer function of the key. Only the remote locking.
in 2012 MB upgraded to the next generation DAS4 key system which looks identical but these keys are shipped as blanks and programmed via an online connection and the scantool.
i dont think independents have the ability yet to do that key programming so the dealer has cornered the market and can charge high.
200 is trasonable for a DAS3 key I dont blame them for charging 300 for a DAS4. There is probably technician labor that needs to be paid.
in all cases documentation of identity and ownership are required by MB HQ.

I have a 2013 C250 with 55k and needed both engine mount replaced.
A local MB shop did it for me $500.00 including both mounts. He mentioned that the tranny mount will be needing replacing soon. I told him to replace it as well.
Never thought the car ran so smooth and quite ever before replacing the mounts.

Hello there,
I have a similar problem (got a single electronic key from the previous owner) but the solution I was told is that from 2013 makes upwards, an additional electronic key can only be programmed from MB Headquarters in Stuttgart, Germany. If the dealer is charging $ 300, it might include shipment of the key, along with cost of key and programming combined. Hope this clarifies.
