Oil filter wrench
I just purchased a new 2016 GLE350 SUV with the 3.5L gas engine. Is the proper oil filter wrench a 74.4 mm, 14-Point? And, do most of you go 10,000 miles between oil changes? I usually change synthetic oil every 5,000 miles. Thanks.

Your car tells you when you need to change oil. Usually in a year, so it doesn't matter how many miles you've driven.

Well, for whatever it is worth... I just came off two BMWs (325i, Z4) for a 2017 C300 coupe. I'm not a high mileage guy and after about 10-11 years of ownership, put on around 65K miles on the 325 and 45K miles on the Z4. I always changed the oil/filter on the BMWs once a year with synthetic, of course. When I sold these cars, never had any engine trouble and they each one purred like a kitten. So what I'm trying to say is that once a year oil/filter change (while doing 12K miles/yr or less) is should be quite OK for most cars.

Oil change interval discussions are always interesting and subjective to say the least. I put 135k miles on a 2000 Durango with the 360 V8. Changed oil every 3k. Got a 2013 Durango Hemi and since I wasn't punishing it commuting, I went to a 5k interval. The dealer service adviser said Dodge was shifting to a partial synthetic which was going to cost more, but you could go longer between changes. I asked Dodge on a forum if going longer would affect my MOPAR extended warranty. Reply was never to exceed 10k miles as per manufacturer's recommendation. Sure enough, 10k was in the Owners Manual. I won't go to 10k, but you learn something new every day. BTW long ago and far away I worked for Texaco in retail sales. They claimed that they once tested their oil in a NYC cab. They never changed the oil but they did change the filter on a regular interval and added oil when needed. Tore the engine down at 100k and said there was no appreciable wear difference between that motor and one that had regular oil changes. Go figure.
