722.6 decoupling ? Can i swap my 722.6 for one from any other MB ?

Hi guys.

My clk320 W209 gearbox finally let go the other day. I was driving at low speed, then heard an increasing whirring noise and then the engine was not sending power to the wheels. the traction decreased as the sound increased, it was not abrupt (it gradually went from coupled, to slipping, to not coupling in like 5 to 10 seconds)

From the sound of it, it feels like the pump is starved. I stopped the car, cut the engine, waited for 5 mins, started it again: strong coupling, no noise ... so i tried moving. the car went for around 30 seconds before whirring noise started and coupling was lost again, but this time the check engine light lit up.

If you have an idea of what could be the problem, i am all ears... i thought it was missing oil, so I "checked", level was right under the cold low marking... with the engine off. Since it also is -2°C now and cold marking is at 25°C, my reading could be completely false ... anyway, i added a liter and made some D/N/R cycles, but the problem was still there, absolutely no changes at all. Added another liter, still the same, so gave up.

This is my first autobox, I have had that car for a year. Now i realize that it seemed the coupling was a little bad when the engine was hot since i had it: by that, i mean that once the car was hot, one could stop, stay in D and (nearly) not move, without braking. It seems this is the same problem, but just got worse.

Although it feels like just swapping another 722.6 in it would just be better.
I know there are different 722.6, thus i'd need to be careful when rebuilding one, but could i replace my 722.6 by ANY other 722.6 (complete with TC), or do i specifically need the same one ?

Specifically, there is an S55 AMG 722.6 gearbox + TC for sale not far away for a nice price, i thought i'd buy it and be done with it, but would it work ?

Thanks

Bit of progress here, it seems the gearbox i am eyeing is a V8 one, so the gear ratio is different.

Question is, can I use it anyway ?

I do not care much if the gear ratio is longer as long as it still is usable, this is a daily drive car that mostly see 70mph drives to and from work. I would not mind an extra bit of mileage.

To be correct, you use EPC to define your transmission number then you do a search for the number used on all models-----else you will be back whining---Oh my gosh my transmission does not match up----WTF do I do now!!

Post you VIN!!

I was looking for a general info on wether any 722.6 GB can match.

Anyway, according to the VIN, this is the transmission i have:
Transmission:
722618 03 567823

The MB specialist is supposed to call me today and tell me wether i need a new box or "just" a new conductor plate and valves.

I was told he is good, but the more i talk with him the less i believe it... this is going to end up at my home, rebuilding that damn box myself.

I do not need an expert to tell me "hey, we have not opened the pan, but if we find bits of metal in there you need to change the whole thing. Ps: that diagnostic is going to cost 120€" . Is that what an MB specialist is supposed to say ?

ok, so my gearbox is dead.

According to the specialist who 2 days ago said "you do not have a glycol problem", my gearbox has a lot of grime and clutch in the pan.

So today, i HAVE a glycol problem.

Did I mention the gearbox was serviced 1 year ago by this guy, and he said "no problem at all" ?

So, now looking for a 722.618 gearbox that is not dead...

To the question "do you know which models fit", you basically answer "find it yourself". If you do not want to answer the question then that is fine, just don't.

Maybe someone who already spent time looking for that info will post it.

It seems either you or a moderator deleted your previous useless comment, you have been warned, stop being an ***, be helpful or go back to not answering.
