ML63 Maintenance issues

Hi guys my 07 ML63 has 28,000km in the clock and I had it in for it's D service. But I get told that oh the front Airmatic struts have failed and need replacing at cost of $10,000! And by the way your engine-mounts are gone too!
No warranty left of course!
Dealer has another ML63 cimingin to dealership also to have front Airmatic replaced but only 18,000 km on that one. Just a disgrace

Hey man, all is not lost.

Have a look at this:

http://www.arnottindustries.com/part...18_pid155.html

This is what I will be installing when / if it happens to my car.

Also, www.genuinemercedesparts.com list the front struts at $2,100 a pair, genuine.

http://www.genuinemercedesparts.com/...6catalogid%3D2

Have bought many parts off these guys before so very reputable.

AMG 63 engine mounts are only $100 each.

Fk the local dealers I say.

I find it very suss that both the front struts have gone?! What symptoms is it showing?

Dealers are a joke, just buy the parts from overseas and get sonny or your other shop to fit them

No problem.

I hate being shafted

If you're ordering from the Benz website, you may want some oil filters. They are a whole $14.80. Beats the $50 I was charged at the dealer last time!

Also a set of Genuine front Rotors and pads for the ML63 runs you $580 USD. Try pricing them locally!!!

CPO Warranty expiring 4/2012

This kind of stuff confirms my fears that driving an AMG without a warranty is taking on catastrophic risk. I am going to pay $3200 to extend CPO coverage for 1 more year (mileage not an issue), and then trade in in the spring of 2013. My ML63 has constantly had small issues, and would worry myself sick if I didn't have coverage in the event of a disasterous event re engine, tranny etc.

$3200 for 1 year? I hope your engine and tranny blows at the same time because if nothing happens you're shafted either way.

I've gotten in & driven 4 miles only to have white smoke pour out the exhaust...a cylinder had stuck open. Non warranteed expense to refit & flush would have been $1800. Had a fuel pump go out....$750 out of pocket without the CPO. Did you not see that an engine failure replacement is potentially $60m+?....you'd have to scrap the vehicle and start with zero equity. I bought an 07 in 09 for $58m (28,000 miles)....have had "little" issues that the service advisor has shown me what they would have cost out of warranty...I average a visit every 6 weeks for mechanical issues. The $3200 is worth knowing my exposure is not a destroyed truck. Midwest in winter is hell on SUVs. I shopped this ELW across the country & for the coverage, this is the price. I personally would never own a vehicle that stickered at close to $100m without warranty coverage. To each his own.

I understand and agree with you I would not have a benz without warranty but $3200 for 1 year sounds ridiculous. In your case $3200/yr doesn't sound so bad since you visit shop once every 6 weeks. But for those that do not have as many issues will be throwing money down the drain.

I actually checked with 3rd party providers, and they all came back $500-$600 more expensive, and one guy was finally honest in saying that a 3rd party will never be able to offer a CPO type warranty as cheaply as the manufacturer. Myabe I should take em up on the 2 year coverage @ $5100.... Price break!

I figure I'll be somewhere around 65,000-67,000 miles in the spring when the 3 year CPO expires, so the extended CPO coverage will take me through approx 80,000 miles. If this beast has misbehaved at 35,000, what's he gonna do to me at 75,000 miles?

1987 300D Turbo, 2007 ML63 AMG
I have a 2007 ML63 AMG, now with 106,000 miles on it. I love it, even though things keep cropping up. Last thing was the alarm siren/horn started to blow and I had to drive it to have it shut off. (No charge) A couple of weeks before the idler pulley seized, belt broke, dealer fixed it for less than $500, which included a free tow and a free loaner car while the repair took place. Dealer reported an oil leak from the front of the engine. "Advised replacement of the engine valve cover gaskets and also the seals for the left and right camshaft adjuster covers” This is really no major problem and I'm having that taken care of next. At 100,000 miles I had a master mechanic check everything, changed engine oil/filter, flushed the brake system and radiator, replaced engine and cabin air filters and for good measure got a kit from Arnott and replaced all air bags and the air compressor. The engine and transmission work perfectly and with careful driving I have been averaging 16 mpg. This SUV is still in showroom condition and a beauty to behold. :-)

It's a sad commentary to own a car that must have a warranty only to trade it in when the warranty expires because owning it after the expiration of the warranty is like holding a live hand grenade
