FYI, the rotors are not typically (cross drilled). They are actually Cast vented, the different is the holes you see are cast into place during the casting process and are only done in the slots for added cooling. Racing brake is the only company to have this feature because it is their patented design (why I chose them in the first place). This does not sacrifice strength like cross drilling so it should not be confused with each other.
Needless to say as you have already experienced, the racingbrake setup plus extreme mass reduction has made the brakes so overwhelmingly powerful that there is no reason to ever get an aftermarket big brake kit.
Your car also has the 90lb mass reduction mod done as well on all 4 corners so it handles WAY better than a standard ML63... You can thank me later for have him set it up that way lol

I run the StopTech front pads and OEM rear pads. It's a great combination. I apply BG stopsqueal on the pad surface and let it absorbe and entire little bottle, let it dry, then install the brake pads. First 100 miles pads may seem kinda soft and braking weak as the pads bed into the new rotors. But once they do, they bite amazingly well

Highly recommend brake pads that are Semi-Metallic due to the material of our rotors. Most brands should work well just stay away from ceramic brake pads.

Long Term update!
Hey Guys,
Its been a LONG time since I first installed these rotors (September 2012) so I figured its now time to do a long term updated. Since I happened to be doing the Racing-brake Stainless Steel brake line upgrade the wheels had to come off anyways so I figured I would do a full update on their longevity and performance.
Lont Term Durability:
From the time I installed these the car has put on at least a good 25,000 very hard miles. Countless 100+ mph stops (mostly on the track of course). I have punished these brakes to absolute extremes and after over two and a quarter years I could not be more impressed with how they held up.
I have probably lost only 1-1.5mm on overall thickness and I still have a lot more to go with regards to longevity. Under hard conditions these rotors should last me roughly 50-55k miles. If you are not nearly as heavy on the brakes as I am then 75k-80k should be possible. As a reference point, my OEM stock rotors were toast at 45k and the previous owner babied the car too.
Rotor Condition:
Usually rotors that have been pushed this hard start to show serious signs of wear. The most common being the rotor surface begins to have wavy grooves as you run your finger nail from the inner most to outer most edge of the rotor. Most of my rotors my whole life have exhibited this to some degree or another. However, with the RacingBrake rotors, it is 100% perfectly flat and smooth. It literally feels like a smooth piece of glass after all these miles. I attribute this to the extremely hard steel alloy they use to manufacture the rotors which does a much better of handling abuse over the long term and evenly dispersing the braking force over the entire surface thereby preventing grooves from forming.
You can also see the rotor has build up a perfect level of pad material smoothly and evenly across the entire rotor surface. They also have an almost mirror like finish as they age.
At some point the grooves will wear away but they were never that deep to begin width, The grooves are probably 50% worn away, and I assume they will wear out at some point. But with the overall thickness of the rotors being so much thicker than any other aftermarket rotor (or even OEM rotor), you could probably go way past that if you wanted to an be just fine. I am attributing total life to when the grooves would disappear, but in reality you can probably go another 20% beyond that point and be totally safe.
Overall:
I could not be happier with the rotors performance and durability. Not only did they exceed my expectations in performance, but given how hard I have pushed them they have done a fantastic job of holding up. I would highly recommend for anyone wanting to replace and/or upgrade their brake rotors, they are worth every penny.

I would highly recommend getting the SS lines and upgrading brake fluid at the same time. You might as well do everyone all at once since there won't be any real additional labor (maybe 1 hour extra tops)

Hey Guys,
Its been a while since I have updated my posts so I wanted to do a long term review of the rotors now that the car is running much more aggressive 315mm Continental DW's on all 4 corners.
Now that the tires are fully broken in I have finally been able to exploit the full braking potential of the car, and I must say it is absolutely immense. The stopping power is truly now on a whole new level. Before the tire upgrade, I was able to easily lock up the 295 Continental DWS tires with anything more than 60% brake pedal effort for speeds above 80mph. Now, I can use full 100% of the braking force to bring the car down from speeds well into the triple digits. You can literally put your body weight into the brake pedal and it will simply clamp down with astonishing force without the tires slipping or losing grip/contact with the roads surface.
Before, The ABS would always activate aggressively under heavy braking simply because the 295 Continental DWS simply could not cope with the massive upgrade in braking force combined with the drastic rotating mass reduction. Now, the Continental DW tires have truly transformed the cars maximum potential performance in ways I never thought possible. The ML63 now brakes on par with a 3800lb sport sedan instead of a 5300lbs SUV/Truck.
The moral of the story is: Upgrading various components does not happen in a vacuum. It is always important to consider all the components involved. By upgrading both brake rotors, stainless lines, brake pads, and most importantly tires... the cars stopping performance is profoundly improved in every possible metric imaginable, all while significantly improving the safety of your vehicle... You never know when those extra 30-40 ft in stopping performance could potentially save your life.
I cannot emphasize how great of a performance upgrade these rotors truly are. I would highly recommend getting the entire brake set for all four corners (4 rotors, Stainless steel lines, Castrol SRF or Motul660 Brake Fluid, and RacingBrakes matched set of brake pads, ET500 or better). The best part is, the whole setup is cheaper than the OEM rotors, sounds like the perfect win-win to me

In addition, I forgot to mention that RacingBrake now has a new brake kit performance upgrade for those looking for the most powerful braking system available for any ML W164 & W166 chassis. This upgrades the rear rotor up from 360mm, to a massive 390mm all while still weighing less than the stock rear OEM caliper/rotor setup.
Now, you can run a full 390mm Front AND 390mm Rear on your ML. Also, because the calipers are aluminum mono block versus cast calipers, the weight reduction is improved even further. You should be able to reduce the overall weight reduction from this kit even further than what I was able to achieve the first time around.
If you plan on seriously upgrading brakes, this is by far the best kit money can buy for our application.

Thats a very good question. I know they share similar chassis and wheels. I would not be surprised if they were a direct swap over. You would have to ask Warren @ Racing Brake to be 100% certain.

ARE YOU serious....don't play with my feeling here.. I looked up part numbers of the Spindle from 2010 ML63 & ML550 they where Different by Two numbers but the Rotors from 2010 ML550 & GL550 Where Basically the same..
I would love to get Bigger Brakes & Rotors For My GL550.. but with out paying that Brembo 8k Price tag.. :-)

The 390/390mm brake kit would be an awesome upgrade. The rotors alone are 24lbs lighter all around (and keep in mind that's for a much larger rear 390mm rotor too).
Also the Calipers are mono lock calipers so they should save a good 8-10lbs over the stock heavy cast units. Throw in the stainless steel brake lines and updated fluid & pads included and it's a massive bargain compared to a brembo setup

Spindles can have different part numbers, but our measurements confirm 2010 ML63 and GL550 can use the same RB brake kit.
