Headlight Modification (PICS INSIDE)
So,
I decided to do a little headlight mod, which i had been wanting to do for a long time now.
I had purchased off eBay, some LED DRL/ Blinker lights, with the intention of installing them on my car. (Link here : http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2Pcs-9LED...d22d6cc&_uhb=1 )
I didint want to put them in a normal place, like in the grill, like most do.
I am aware that one could buy aftermarket headlights, for our cars from eBay, with DRLs built in, but i didint like the design of them, and the placement of the blinker, where the high beam usually is.
I wanted to install them within the headlight, like the aftermarket one. But since where i wanted to install them, blocked the main blinker on the front, i needed one with an integrated blinker. Hence why i got the ones i did.
The headlights were held together with Silicone. It was a bit of a mission cutting the silicone out. I heated it up to help, but still not easy!
While in the process of pulling the headlights apart, i gave them a good clean inside, and also painted the chrome inside, to black (like the Late 2010 + ML's. I think they called them Edition 10)
I painted the inside with PlastiDip. Turned out flawless.
Taking the bumper bar off was surprisingly pretty easy (my first attempt at taking a bumper bar off a vehicle) I did have assistance from a friend with removal. Hard to do by ones self.
Anyway, these pics are of the headlight complete, and the bumper is just sitting there. I havnt installed it back in yet, but wanted to post some pics for everyone to see.
Please comment, and let me know what you think. Positive & Negative comments welcome.
Anyone who has tried taking pics of lights, knows they never turn out properly. This is no exception. I feel in real life, they look much better.
In the high beam, i had also installed 35W LED projectors, which is soo much brighter than the OEM high beam. Great for country roads at night.

holy! wow!!! i like this a lot. I too have the chrome headlight and really want the new facelift ones. you wanna do mine? i love how the LED can switch colors between orange and clear. so sick. The only thing i would change would be, instead of the clear reflectors, i would like it orange, but i know your originally came with clear one. overall. I LOVE IT!!!

Yeah is Australia, all our cars come with clear reflectors. I much prefer the clear ones personally.
I have included all the link to the product I used, and would be happy to assist with any advice if anyone were to do this.

Yeah, these are my factory headlights, that I opened up.
The plastidip is fine under this heat.
I have plastidipped exhausts and it has had no effect on the dip. So a little headlight heat is fine
I didn't get the after market headlights, as I didn't like the design at all. So I opted to pop open my factory ones.

Sorry, I didn't take any pics of the process. I wish I had.
Yes, I resealed with clear silicone.
It was quite easy. Time will tell if I did a proper job, but I was quite easy.
It was harder opening it up. Cutting the existing sealant was a task, but I heated it up and that helped a lot.
