- Bluetooth Audio solution for Aux Input (older ML63s) !!! -
All,
I always hated not having Bluetooth Audio on our older ML63s. Forced to using annoying Aux Cables being run from the glove box, I never enjoyed having to always plug in the cable then unplug every time I left the car. There HAS to be a better way... and now there finally is a better way!
Found a great cost effective solution off eBay for only $20. It is a Lithium-Ion powered Auxiliary Bluetooth adapter with built in Microphone Jack 3.5mm adapter. The battery life is 8 hours of continuous playback and it can be recharged with any universal standard USB micro B charging cable (most androids use this as well as Bluetooth ear pieces).
The added benefit of the adapter is it has an auto shut-off feature that automatically turns the unit off once you walk outside its 33-foot range meaning you never have to manually turn it off. It automatically turns off for you simply by recognizing that you have walked out of range. I have been using it for over 2 weeks so far and still have not had to charge it yet (when you think about it, 8 solid hours of playback is A LOT when the avg trip is only 15-20 min). The adapter kit comes with everything you need.
The only thing you have to do is turn it on when you get into the car. Rotate/flip the unit forward, hold the power button for 5 seconds, then flip it backwards (GB won't closed with it flipped in front position, luckily it flips over with full clearance no problem making this very easy to do).
I have included pictures of the unit in both the forward and flipped position for reference.
Although its not as perfect as OEM factory integration on the newer units. It is now so much better to use Pandora and Hype Machine on my iphone. I now no longer feel so "left out" or "behind the times" and my desire to upgrade to new ML is even less given how its now faster and has all the bells and whistles of the new W166 models.
There are a few different sellers out there with free shipping. Make sure you get it from a vendor in the USA and not China b/c the shipping time is 3x as long. I got mine from seller Priceextrem, but you can get it from any as long as it looks like this exact unit with all the accessories and cables.

Hope this helps,

Hey guys,
Just went almost 2 full weeks until it needed a charge. Very impressive. For the price there is no better Bluetooth solution. I highly recommend it

wow thanks for the info. Such a great truck. I just honestly wish there was a market where we can switch out our radio's for something a bit more modern. I see the eBay Made in China stuff but it isn't worth the hassle. I've heard mixed reviews from it. But this bluetooth adapter seems like a homerun compared to what I've been using, 6 foot wire.
