The owners manual shows how to deactivate, but it does not show this as an option on the ML63. In this space is the M S C trans selector.

The symbol is the truck pictured climbing a rock on the cluster...

This may be why it won't go to 1st gear automatically

Glad you "fixed" it. Not to hard to mess it up if you're constantly playing with the steering buttons like I do

did you fix it, it's on/off is on the steering wheel controls
